Who is the next Men's Basketball Coach at UC?

If true, then respect to Cunningham for disregarding the deep pockets on CWM's side. JC had to let Wes go or his job was next in line. I think JC had made up his mind some time ago, which is why Wes got so emotional in his post-game interview several weeks ago. The team went on a good run after that as Wes tried to save his job but it was too late.

Jerrod Calhoun, Utah State head coach, former Bob Huggins assistant at WVU
Tony Skinn, George Mason head coach
Bryce Drew, former Valparaiso and Vanderbilt coach, currently at Grand Canyon
Eric Olen, New Mexico

John Groce, former Illinois coach, now at Akron
Travis Steele, Miami (OH)
There are others that the article lists as long-shots. Not certain how reliable this list is either.

Or $4.1M could have gone to another coach over a 5yr period. I like the statement. IMO it needed to be made.Originally posted by UC4me View Post
I disagree with your thoughts about not waiting until April 1 and taking the cheap way out. I believe it would be a 4.1 million in savings to do that. That isn't cheap. Imagine some of the players that could be bought with that amount of money? I think it is fiscally irresponsible to fire him now. Put it another way...we just gave Wes 4.1 million to not work for 18 days.

Thinking back. I think it was irresponsible for the athletic department to give Wes an extension when he had proved nothing so far. Had Wes not been given an extension we wouldn't be talking about a buyout to begin with, IMOOriginally posted by UC4me View Post

Mo said Cunningham told WM a couple of weeks ago and that is why he was so emotional. The team started to try hard to save his job (why would it take that). Some deep pockets were still with him, but the last two minutes of the UCF regulation game sealed the deal. Moe further said it might be a major upset if Calhoun didn't get the job.

Terry is on the Mo show now. -- He said WM didn't put the right card on the table and refused to change the players as he stayed with the starters. No adjustment at the right time is the reason he was fired. He said not playing Tillery who was responsible for the 8 of 10 wins. He was the only one who could take the ball down. WM did nothing.Last edited by leo from jersey; Yesterday, 05:38 PM.

Maybe. I don’t think there is a slam dunk hire. Calhoun may be the right choice but no candidate is a slam dunk other than a Power 4 coach who has won a national championship.Originally posted by red_n_black_attack View PostJerrod Calhoun is the slam dunk hireLast edited by London 'Cat; Yesterday, 05:58 PM.

I would agree no slam dunk hire in Calhoun.
I would say he's the frontrunner of up and coming coaches. I am extremely skeptical of Travis Steele. He was a failure at X. He may be better suited in a lower league like the MAC.
Bobby Hurley is intriguing! He's had success and failure in a major conference.
I still like throwing $$$ at Pitino which is a long shot.
What about Bruce Pearl who is only 65. Yes he's retired, but he's been successful wherever he goes.

I just hope that they can figure out a way to structure the contract to make it easier for dismissal. The coaches always get bonuses for many achievements such as: number of wins, conference championship, conference tournament championship, NCAA invite, wins in the NCAA, etc. Why not keep the salary lower but load it with all sorts of bonus incentives. So, if you it all of your bonuses, you can make $10M but your annual salary is only $4M.
