  • Tommy T on the Big 12 (need to expand, and them getting left out of playoff again), the plus 1, player payments, a new conference with playoff tie-ins. The interview was scant of details; however, he alluded to a lot.

Does Houston bring much to the table in added tv viewership or is this a push by Texas to only add teams that will vote with them (or the state legislature/governor will have sway)?

I don't care who is #1 or #2, as long as UC in included when invites are generated.

HOUSTON ??? Why am I not surprised at this! This has the fingerprints of Austin all over it. What a jacked up, dysfunctional football conference.

IF this is true then the administrations in the Big 12 are really nuts. What on earth does Houston add to a conference that is already overloaded with Texas schools? It sounds like they are thinking about recreating the old Southwest Conference, which imploded BECAUSE no cared about it outside the state of Texas. I wouldn't get involved in the merits of Houston being added to any of the other P-5 conferences, but to add them to the Big 12 is just plain crazy!

                • I'm not sure about the us or them scenario but the Houston things has legs. Then again, the Memphis thing had legs last year. Houston has MAJOR attendance issues. It seems unlikely that they would get 33000 a game.

sounds like a 'recruiting' tool for UH's fans. at the same time, i wouldn't be mad if this got a few more people to attend UC's games.

                    • Wow! Houston has done nothing for along time in BB or FB. It would be a shame if we get passed over for them.

Accomplishments really don't matter in realignment. Look at Rutgers to the B1G. That was all about the market. I have a hard time believing that they would decide between Houston and us based on attendance and wins from one season only. Houston is a huge market which could help them but they suffer from the same problem as us in a pro sports town: Astros, Texans and even Rockets

                        • Well now we have this. ESPN is losing subscribers and may not want to shell out additional TV dough to add schools in the BIG 12.

                          • I am not sure what to make of this supposed inside source, except it is coming from the Houston camp and we have seen so many of these stories with anonymous "inside sources" the last few years. While Houston may be under consideration I just can't understand it unless Texas politics are involved since it does nothing to expand the geographic footprint and in fact condenses it even more. I also can't see why ESPN would be for it since Houston does not move the meter at all nationally and the Houston market is dominated by Big 12 teams already. If Houston had some success in Football or Basketball in recent years I could understand it. If indeed Houston is indeed being considered it is, like Rutgers, because of where they are instead of who they are. The same goes for UCF.

LOL. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch. Texas gets what they deserve. They have an arrogant administration and arrogant fans........so naturally they hired a pompous, arrogant AD. Why is that so surprising to everyone?
If the administration at UT keeps going in the direction they've been going, they're going to wake up one morning soon and see that Oklahoma & Oklahoma State are in the SEC. Then they will REALLY have something to fight about (and a new conference to find).
