KOCH: UC Needs Defense to Take Next Step
Tommy Tuberville made the decision several weeks ago to begin to provide some of his freshmen more playing time in an attempt to improve the speed and athleticism on the defensive unit. But he did not envision having five freshmen in the starting lineup, as he did last week in UCâs loss at BYU.
The Bearcats might already be paying the price of having so much inexperience on defense. They rank ninth in the American Athletic Conference in scoring defense, allowing 31.8 points per game, and seventh in total defense, allowing 406 yards per game.
But Tuberville still believes this defense ultimately be better than last yearâs.
