Meanwhile in my adopted Hometown, Mike Aresco is trying to hold the line.

Nebraska's Scott Frost is stating that they want to play the season regardless of the Big 10's decision to cancel. This might be posturing by Frost but if it's not we might gain that game back. Again, I think Nebraska brass will reign him in but a sliver of hope is there for this game.

Not playing is the safe thing to do because any risks, perceived risks, or actual COVID cases (unknown long term health effects, hospitalizations, or deaths) are cause for lawsuits. I wish there was a way to guarantee player safety and legally protect the schools by having players sign waivers, but just don't see it happening. I wish the AAC were amongst the few schools playing football this Fall along with the SEC, and possibly ACC and Big 12. A four conference race to the finish with conference championship games and each conference send thier top two teams to an eight game National Playoff bubble on an island in the Carribean. As much as I would've loved to see this year's special team, I want the pandemic to be over so we can go back to normal everyday acceptible risks in life.
Politics aside, once something reaches pandemic declaration, the acceptible risks go down until it is no longer a pandemic. Pandemics come and go. Pandemics do end. COVID will end too, just not in time for 2020.

This will not surprise me in the least. I was trying really hard to be realistic without being overly pessimistic on here. TBH, football was never going to happen this fall because the COVID trends went in the wrong direction in June and July especially in the south where half othe AAC is located.Originally posted by red_n_black_attack View Post[Forde] Prominent industry source: "I think by the end of the week the fall sports will be postponed in all conferences."

One of the reasons why the trend line of the number of cases is going down in August is that the country overall is doing less testing this month. Some of this is politics but a lot of it has do to the hurricane that just went through the east coast. The testing centers in those eastern seaboard states closed temporarily for safety reasons during the last week so there are no numbers coming in from those sites right now.
I love that our guys want to play and that no one opted out but I'm not sure it would be the smartest decision on their part to actually go out there. There's no doubt, this would have been a good season for UC and it sucks that the players might lose the oppotunity to show it.

That's okay and can be good. Football is being canceled because of potential for lawsuits. Universities can get legal protection by making student athletes paid employees of the university. Most employees get free tuition.Originally posted by Bearcat Chris View PostWhat might be a bigger and longer term concern are players forming unofficial unions. This is from SI today, which mentions that UCF players are starting to get the AAC involved…

Athletes from a fourth Football Bowl Subdivision conference are on a path to joining the Pac-12, Big Ten and Mountain West in the latest player-driven movement sweeping across the college sports landscape.
A document entitled a “Proposal for Change" from “student athletes in the American Athletic Conference” was circulated to at least four schools in the league this week. It listed 10 concerns, ranging from COVID-19 safety to scholarship security to a request for “hazard pay” and 20 percent of AAC revenues.
The document, obtained by Sports Illustrated, originated at Central Florida, according to three sources. Those sources also said UCF has paused workouts in recent days, although a school source said that at least one missed workout was unrelated to player unrest. Several schools contacted by SI do not believe their players are involved in the movement. “I think this is a UCF problem and we’re getting dragged in,” one said.
Ideally, the pay is negotiated with said national player's association or union so pay is same at all schools. Pay is used to cover books, room & board, and any other cost of attendance. Write into contract that class attendance and grades are part of the deal. Most tuition reimbursements require a C or the tuition is charged to the student. Require minimum number of players per team and a maximum, 70-80 min/max sounds reasonable. Contract is good for five years to cover 4 years of playing. If player plays in first 4 year and isn't going pro, the player can take 5th year of classes by participating in practices or otherwise helping the team, but not play in games in year 5. No 6th year or longer option unless hired onto coaching staff.
