does that USF coach have any connection to Ohio? If he keeps winning this season maybe that's who we should be targeting after this season..
A quick google search later and I've seen his name on this board before... I think he was in the running when we hired CSS... would be an easy decision then

Even if the Bulls lose at the Hurricanes, they will be in the CFP if they win out. If that happens, Alex will have his pick of mid-tier suitors from SEC, Big 10, ACC, and the Big 12. I don't like our chance if that is the case.Originally posted by Chewbacca2099 View Postdoes that USF coach have any connection to Ohio? Oh, for sure. I expect he will fall off the list, and we still may lose a whole raft of games, but the fact that he is currently listed was unfathomable after just the first game this season. I also suspect there are folks who have mixed feelings about us winning right now. I am guessing some folks secretly want the Cats to get throttled over and over to increase the likelihood he would get fired. It has got to be a strange inner dynamic of being frustrated that your team is winning because it means coach would be around longer than this year.Originally posted by bearcatbret View Post
There are still games to be played.

The only reason that brings me hope, and very little hope, is Satterfield has improved as the season progresses. Not in his first two years at UC but at UL, especially 2-3 years in. Maybe he is slow to adapt and change but has finally figured things out. The team has been somewhat lucky, winning games by one possession as opposed to losing those games. College football can go either way with a one score margin. This year UC happens to be on the plus side (except Nebraska) and not the minus.Originally posted by UC4me View Post

I never liked the hire... but we are having a great year so far... so count me in that torn category. Let's see how the rest of the season plays out and then re-evaluate... my concern would be if JC gives him a massive contract extension and then Sorsby, Godfather, Royer, and others all go pro and we have 4-5 years of under .500 football and stuck again. I might change my mind if we get into the playoffs or at least Big12 Championship game

The premature contract extension possibility gives me the willies. I would sure hope a greater body of sustained growth would be used as the barometer rather than acting rashly. I was never a fan of this hire either, but I definitely want to see us succeed (not suggesting you want us to fail).Originally posted by Chewbacca2099 View PostI never liked the hire... but we are having a great year so far... so count me in that torn category. I'm glad we are having a great season but for me I am still lukewarm on Scott Satterfield. Yes he did some great recruiting that is paying off - especially with our FG kicking - but I am still waiting for a buzzsaw to take us apart. Coaching has been reasonable and you can't argue with our running game most of the time and the core of wide receivers is a definite upgrade. But the lapses on defense, giving up big plays, number of pass interferences called and a somewhat overdependence on Sorsby running makes me nervous.

very valid points -- I am also wondering if the recruiting can replace (reload) for the coming seasons.Originally posted by Greg7173 View PostI'm glad we are having a great season but for me I am still lukewarm on Scott Satterfield. The Bearcats gave up one long play all day, which was a rushing attempt in which tackles were missed and the ballcarrier dragged multiple players downfield. Aside from that, they held the most prolific passer in the country to a grand total of 137 yards. For most of the game, Sawyer Robertson had no one to throw to. The 8-man cover had them blanketed.Originally posted by Greg7173 View PostI'm glad we are having a great season but for me I am still lukewarm on Scott Satterfield. As far as DPI calls are concerned, that's not just a UC thing. I watch a lot of college football and see a ton of yellow flags on routes along the sidelines, particularly fades into the end zone. It's just the nature of how the game is called now.
This is a good team. I'm quite happy with how they play and with CSS's offensive playcalling. It's very diverse and explosive.
When UC hired CSS, I didn't make any prejudgments. A good many fans were turned off immediately and still won't come around to the fact that what's happening this season isn't some magic that will instantly disappear.
Yes, the roster will lose some key players. Every roster does, every year, especially in the age of the portal and high finance. The GM that CSS hired, Zach Grant, is outstanding at player identification. He's already working on future additions. A quality GM doesn't wait until the portal opens to ID talent. He's prepared to add the types of players that CSS wants and needs. That's how this excellent group of WR's showed up this year; how Jake Golday was plucked from the unknown to star. Brendan Sorsby could leave (portal or draft). I trust Grant to find his replacement, if Semaj Jones or one of the other current QB's isn't the answer.
Tyson Veidt runs defenders in and out during the entire game. The D-line rotation involves 8 or 9 guys every week. Six LB's play a lot, with the current backups younger and ready to replace Golday and Dingle.
Relax; enjoy the rest of the season. UC finally has B12-quality talent and CSS is utilizing it.
