Unless he can get them to reduce their academic standards for players, and good luck with that, he'll always have less talent than the top programs ND is compared to. Since they'll continue to play a brutal schedule, every year, they'll always lose at least a couple. He couldn't do any worse than Weis, but every year he isn't in a BCS bowl, it is a failed year.
Speaking of which, if UC beats Pitt on Sat., and Kelly does leave, the next coach only has two straight BCS bowl games to live up to. It'd be interesting to see how that coach would be judged.Comment

1. Kerry is valuable to this program and we should do everything to keep him.
2. He isnt going to be the head coach here anytime soon.
3. Kerry is not in same league that Faust was at when he was at Moeller. Moeller won 6 State titles in like 8 years and were named mythical national champs 5 times. No where even close.
4. The new coach, if ND wants Kelly, will be Butch Jones.Comment

True...however there also were three very successful coaches (in different capacities) that preceeded the next head coach for ND. I'm not saying that if BK is the next head coach he won't succeed...just saying it would be much easier at UC.Comment

I don't really see it. None of the guys the ND has hired since Holtz have had a resume comparable to BK's (Weiss had never even been a head coach). Davie was a career coordinator and Weiss had only been a head coach at the high school level. Willingham is the closest in terms of head coaching success and his success was taking a Stanford team without much recent success and turning them into a slightly better than .500 team. Kelly has almost as many wins as a UC coach in three years as Willingham had at Stanford in seven years. And Kelly has had coaching success at two other programs prior to UC.Nick Frame

ND doesn't have any higher academic standards for its athletes than UM or Ohio State. And talent hasn't been a problem at ND under Weiss, they've consistently recruited like a top 10 team since he got there, but the only teams he's been able to win with were the teams comprised of Willingham's "bad" recruits.Unless he can get them to reduce their academic standards for players, and good luck with that, he'll always have less talent than the top programs ND is compared to. Is ND's schedule particularly brutal? One of the big reasons they got picked to be in a BCS game this pre-season was that they had, for the second straight season at least, a fairly easy schedule.Nick Frame

Well here we go. Here's the latest from the footballcoachscoop.com:

Yeah, but meanwhile, there's an "offer on the table" for BK, according to yesterday's post.Well here we go. Here's the latest from the footballcoachscoop.com:

I hope this site gets hacked or something - they're about as credible as ESPN.@mrgalati / @RepOfCincinnatiComment

Guys, this is total smoke screen IMO. Get to Pittsburgh and cheer your butts off for the Bearcats on Saturday, but prepare to hear that Coach Kelly is the next Notre Dame coach not long after. I would LOVE to be dead wrong on this of course.Well here we go. Here's the latest from the footballcoachscoop.com:

63/66 in athletic budget??
Can anyone provde a link?? I believe you, but this is very interesting. Whom is below us? Geez, we have a long road ahead of us. Also, what happened to one of the best weight rooms in the country?? Then Rutgers builds one and they are touting the same thing. Hard to know what is true.He can't say no because he isn't paid as much as Greg Schiano. Period. The end. If he made the 3m a year, then I would be more worried about him leaving at this point if he won't commit. Right now, what a lot of people perceive as his best better opportunity is about to come available, he has to use that leverage. Wouldn't you? He has to test UC. Everything we've done for him/because of him has been a stretch for our program. I expect if he stays, we're probably going to have to put him in the 2.5m a year range, or at least 1$ more than the next highest paid coach in the BE. (2.2ish)
He has said all of the things about his general happiness in Cincinnati. I believe him, I think most of us do. But just because he's happy in Cancun doesn't mean he can win a championship there, or he can build a sustaining program there. Unfortunately, we're not in a situation where we can be comfortable. We're 63/66 BCS schools in athletic budget. He needs total assurance that this thing won't go bust in 2 years.Comment
