I don't know this to be true but my thought is that ABC asked Brian Kelly specifically if he would answer the phone if Notre Dame called after the regular season is over. I am sure he answered by saying he would entertain their call if it came and thus ABC took it and did what ESPN always does and that is report things out of context to stir up controversy. I think Brian's comments towards the media following the game yesterday backs this theory up.Comment

I hope BK stays. If he decides to go, I will thank him for what he has done and wish him well in the future (as long as he is not playing the Bearcats). For those who would consider BK a turncoat, I ask you to consider the following: Would BK leaving for Notre Dame be any different than when UC dumped Rick Minter upon joining the Big East. FBS Football is big business and the schools and coaches make business decisions. If UC wants to play with the big boys it is going to have to step up and pay like the big boys. I hope that is possible.Comment

I don't know if Coach Kelly stays or not, but my gut feeling says he will be here next year. I just saw the replay of yesterday's game that I DVR'd and had the same tears in my eyes today at the end of the game that I had yesterday. For us long suffering Bearcat fans, having endured the bitter disappointment of early exits in the NCAA tourney, yesterday's game was an emotional catharsis. Whether BK is here after this year or not, I will be truly indebted to him for giving me one of the greatest feelings at the end of a game that I will ever experience. BEARCATS FOREVER!Comment

I cannot believe that you just stated that you would rather go to a Meineke Car Care Bowl or Papa Johns vs a BCS. I want us to make a BCS every year we can. Sometimes a family may not be able to go due to the expense. Other times they will or may go every time. In my mind, I just figure that would be one vacation - wherever we play. If I cannot make it in person for some reason, I may still buy a ticket and either sell it or eat it for the program. If times are rough, I will just stay home and root for them. However, to become relevant as a power, a BCS bowl is how you do it. I don't want them to not do it because its personally expensive for me.The issue isn't that BK isn't good, its just that... the University has made it a priority to keep him within their means. The President has made it a special priority. But clearly, our maximums are short of ND's maximums, and they're probably even short of UofL. And we should be glad since those increased maximums generally mean a jaded fan base with unrealistic expectations. It is good that they aren't just making a straight up commitment without aligning it with the University's financial situation. But, they're pushing the limit and that's all we can ask them to do.
I think the program itself is healthy. But, just having a competitive team in the Big East was the goal 5 years ago while our Basketball tradition was the asset. Now we've won the thing twice. We're living in the era of tradition.
Losing BK would stink, but MT has made smart hires. We may experience a dropoff, but a dropoff may be nice to help fortify our fans without spending the expense of yearly BCS bowls (it will cost my dad and I at least 1500 bucks to go to go to New Orleans, whereas Charlotte or Birmingham would have cost around 500, maybe). Feel free to disagree, but UofL would be the best job in the Big East right now if Kragthorpe had just won 7-8 games a year. We just can't go from top to bottom, like UofL did, but with the talent in the bank, we're fine, and with the (at least geographical) upgrade of bowls next year, things should be good for the forseeable future. Disney? NYC? Awesome.Last edited by jadam222; 12-06-2009, 02:32 PM.Comment

Edsall makes sense. He fits the ND AD's two stated requirements (established college coach and a Defensive oriented guy), he hasn't denied his interest, ND played UConn and got an up-close look at him, he is a feel-good name that would garner lots of positive coverage for how he's handled the Jasper Howard story (definitely different than BK with the CMU story) AND, ND has waited to hire a guy (making it unlikely it's someone available) and UConn was one of few teams still playing yesterday. He's built the program literally from the ground at UConn (even more so that BK at UC), he could
be a good one to take the torch at ND. I like Edsall a lot. If UC lost BK, I'd like Edsall at UC.
Footballcoachscoop clearly reports all the rumors they hear, so the Edsall to ND stuff has some basis in something. I'd hate to lose him from the Big East, but I'd hate to lose BK even more.U.C. Law '09Comment

I rather to see ND get someone from any non-Big East conference. We need good coaches and teams in Big East. If it is true about Edsall, then we would be relieved about BK not going to ND, but feel bad for our BE brother UConn.I bleed red and black!!!!Comment

They actually have zero credibility, but they're probably making fistfuls of money via the advertising they attract. They post any rumor, drive a whole bunch of traffic to their site, then sell ads. Pretty simple. Come to think of it, that sort of reminds me of espn.comComment

My family member who has connections to a major ND Booster relayed the following information to me this afternoon:
BK had been vetted by ND, but due to "political concerns", ND has decided that BK is not "the right fit".
I am not trying to weasle out of the bet I made. I intend to honor it no matter what happens, but I felt this was worthy of posting.
So in effect, this is probably GREAT news for UC.
