Oscar wanted out, as Cousy was an a-hole brought in to tear down the Royals (trading Lucas was one of the first things he did). Oscar eventually OK’d a trade to the Bucks for Flynn Robinson and Charlie Paulk.

I remember when the Royals, tied for the longest losing streak in NBA history (I think 22). With the Royals up 5 with under a minute left, Cousy put himself in the game, where he committed three straight turnovers, the Royals lost and set the record.
The streak was the Knicks' winning streak (this victory gave them 18 in a row, and a 23-1 record for the season). You're correct about the Royals being up 5, but the time left was less than 30 seconds. Oscar fouled out so Cousy put himself in, and he embarrassed himself. BYW, this game was played in Cleveland as a Cincy "home" game.

Your mention of Oscar vetoing the trade touched a spot in my memory (it was in there but not accessible ); now I remember how folks were happy Oscar thumbed his nose at Cousy with his veto. I don't know if was audacity or incompetence, but how does one trade a player without checking the details of his contract?

Since you've been a good sport, I found two clips of the end of the game (one in color!).
