Sedz, is there a way to break down his numbers from his final 9 games or so? It appeared he started playing better towards the end of the season. Hopefully it will give the fans a little more optimism regarding his commitment.

He averaged a 0.1 BPM over the last 9 games. Definitely showed progress. Still some bad shooting games in there despite scoring a lot of points, but he took better care of the ball. Only two games with a TO rate above 13% in that 9 game stretch after 14 such games before that.

Only partially. There are two other factors. The staff have determined that there are virtually no available, ready-now players left in the portal. Plus, CJC has a philosophy of building a program with a blend of ready players and developmental talent. He has said that will always be the case. He and his staff have not had time to build relationships with the current crop of the few highly talented 2026 HS kids that remain and, just as importantly, their coaches (and handlers).

I would also like to read what CJC said concerning why he signed him especially after saying the roster was pretty much complete. What did he see?

We are excited because this is a new year and a new team, He seems to have come on later in his frosh year, and perhaps year two under CJC he can be special. This isa test for the new coaching staff. After 7 bad seasons we have hope. Is it Fleming giving the hope or is it the fresh start. Hopefully both.

Akai Fleming posted a negative 2.5 BPM in his freshman season at Georgia Tech. While he may have potential, metrics say he was bad on both sides of the ball. He does get to the free throw line and makes 82% there. 33% from deep on moderate volume. But he converts under 40% inside the arc - 50% at the rim and only 30% from midrange. Those are terrible efficiency numbers. And it's even worse in nine top 50 games: negative 3.9 BPM, 30% inside the arc, and a 22% turnover rate. Negative 1.1 DBPM was worst on the team, and Georgia Tech was bad last year, going 2-16 in conference.

I don't mind the signing. He's got plenty of time to develop. But I see a lot of social media posts claiming Fleming is a star who is sure to start at SG this year. That's wildly optimistic. He's got a nice highlight reel when his shots go in. And he took a lot of shots to score double digits in the ACC, which is what everyone is excited about. But he needs to dramatically improve his efficiency to become an effective player. 42% eFG is not high major starter level.

My upside comp for Fleming is Keith Williams. Keith really struggled as a freshman with a negative 3.2 BPM, 40% eFG, and 23% TO rate but showed athleticism and an ability to attack the basket. He broke out as a sophomore with a 4.1 BPM, 49% eFG, and 16% TO rate. We can hope for something similar out of Fleming, but Carson and Colvin should be better and more polished players next season.

It does seem strange that he lasted this long. Also, it sounds like he didn't start right away, but had some higher scoring games late in the year. Sounds like a significant signing to me.

I thought that there was an independent thread about APR. However, it is such an old topic that I could not find it. Keep in mind that it was the academic progress report that haunted Huggin's teams. Initially, it required your student-athletes to graduate and if you did not score high enough, you started losing scholarships. The fault was that if an athlete transferred out of your program and did not graduate, it scored against your APR. Now with the portal and unlimited free agency, how does the APR still remain relevant? With this in mind, fourteen UC teams had a perfect score.

So far for next season, UC's roster has 10 guys in total (so far). The roster composition consists of 2 point guards, 5 shooting guards/wings, and 3 big men. So, UC has three more scholarships to give. In my opinion, UC could use another big man. Perhaps a pure 4 or a combo 4/5. Somebody about 6'10" or taller, can play on both sides of the floor, and can shoot a jump shot. I am amazed at all the bigs that cannot shoot a jump shot. The jump shot is one of the most basic tools in basketball. Back to the main topic. With the last two scholarships, UC could bring in 2 freshmen. Maybe Quincey Wadley could be a recruit, and another freshman point guard or big man that Calhoun and staff can develop.

Any thoughts on how the remaining 3 scholarships could be used?

While technically only 13 scholarships, the other 2 roster spots will get enough NIL to get make up for a scholarship. My thought is go after best available high school guys or overseas. The transfer market is going to make it hard to find the talent we need.
