Oh well. You’re welcome to your opinion. What did you want another year of Miller? Change was overdue. Did this past year’s team have more talent? They lost several games with late second half leads. That’s a coaching issue. Last year’s team fell apart during crunch time. So, I’m definitely excited about the coaching change. The key is he’s bringing in his kind of players, that hopefully will play as a team which is more important than a random 5 star player or McDonald’s all American, who can’t play team ball. So if the mid major coach can get them to the tournament in year one or two, I’ll take it. He took Utah St to back to back NCAA tournament appearances. They also won first round and were competitive against Arizona, with a lot less talent compared to our team, who got blown out by that same Arizona team. I like the direction this offseason is going but everyone is entitled to their opinion, I just love how negative some are knowing they haven’t played a game yet. I guess time will tell, but I’ll fully support Calhoun and the Cats until there is a reason not to.

I seriously hope he has someone helping him with his free throw shooting. That could be a problem late in close games.

The rest shoot 80%. Never had a Bearcat team shoot free throws like that.

Yeah. It would be nice if Hastings and Allenspach can play together. Allenspach is more of a scorer and Hasting can be used for rim protection. Maybe the wildcard here is Iweze. This guy was quite a stud in high school. He is 6'10" 240 and was the 18th best PROSPECT coming out of Texas and was rated the 35th best center in his class by 247Sports. The plan by Calhoun may be to develop Iweze. Still, another big man is needed.

When all the roster spots are filled, the competition should be fierce in practice.

BC played some two big lineups. Hastings played alongside 6'11" Boden Kapke quite a bit. Kapke could step out and shoot the three and had rebounding rates typical of a 4. So Hastings already has some experience playing with a guy like Allenspach.

BC also had 6'9" Aiden Shaw playing 25 minutes a night with a pure 5 profile. Shaw had even lower offensive usage than Hastings. So they almost always played two bigs together, with a 3 man rotation featuring two guys who did nothing on offense. Probably why BC was #278 in offensive efficiency and #336 shooting.

I did not realize Hastings was a pure 5. I thought he was a combo 4/5. He is kind of short for a pure 5. My guess is Calhoun may experiment with Hastings at the 4 and Allenspach at the 5 in practice to see if both guys can play together.

Let's not forget that the roster is not complete yet. Calhoun still has more guys to bring in. I think that UC still needs another big as was mentioned previously. Right now, UC only has three sizeable bigs. That is not enough. UC needs at least one more true big man. Either a 4 or a combo 4/5. Somebody 6'10" or taller that can move on the perimeter, defend, rebound, and hit a shot. Is that asking for too much?

Who else can UC bring in to fill that spot?

I guess the ultimate is the eye test. How did they do on the court for the whole season. I would say the majority of us were rather disappointed. The old is gone. My desire is for victories on the court regardless if stats support good play or not.

I disagree. From February 5 until the end of the season, the team played good basketball, for the most part. That was a stretch where it won 4 in a row, went 6-2 to end the regular season, and 1-1 in the BIGXII tournament. It wasn't enough to get them into the tournament but the team showed improvement over its play early in conference. I think 30th sounds about right statistically. As you pointed out, stats aren't everything.

i can take a sample of almost any team's season, in any sport, to justify almost any position (kinda like using stats - I can still remember my high school stats teacher - his #1 principle was that anyone can twist stats to support anything - sometimes, the same stats can support opposing positions. anyway, taken in its entirity, i just don't see it. even at the end, when they "were on a roll", you had jizzle's faux pas, "wes time out gate", and the emotional cripple (baba) going off on a ref. sorry, I think we need to agree to disagree on this one.

Last year’s team finished #30 in Torvik. I’ll gladly take that or better this coming season. The key will be winning tough close games, the kind we just couldn’t finish the last few years. We won’t have Jizzle to blame anymore.

This maybe it for this year. We have to see the conditions and be glad for improvements in team play and individual. Next year hopefully more money and incoming frosh. I hopefully can stay positive until CJC gets a foundation.
