Having now slept after the debacle that was UC losing at home, on senior night, to a team that only has two conference wins, the one thing that comes to mind is "to continue to do the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity". We know CWM is not crazy, so there is something going on internally that's not being made public that's prohibiting this teams progress. It may or may not be correlated to all that transpired last year but I keep thinking, What are the odds of all fifteen players remaining exactly the same throughout an entire season? Its an impossibility! I mean how can a person go an entire season and not learn a thing? Im not just picking on JD, but its the 30th game on the schedule and you still do not know not to allow your man to get behind you, you cant stay in front of your man for three seconds? I'm not going to imply or insinuate anything directly only to say that going through the posts that comes to this forum after games, starting with the loss to Monmoth everyone on here has been cataloguing the exact same problems concerning these players. So now I'm very interested in the roster transformation CWM has alluded to for next season.

After last night's game which I attended, I wanted to wait & comment after the anger died down. I for the most part never throw a player or coach under the bus. I do have to question what the heck is going on with
this team. We are regressing not progressing. We had 3 fouls to give at the end of the game & didn't use them. We did not challenge the out of bounds play in the last minute which we should have. Why not!!!!!?
I know we have to give new coached time but I do not see any player development on this team. Why are we sticking with the same lineup when it's not working? CWM really needs to step up his coaching &
recruiting. We need productive big men, guards that can defend & score consistently & make better shot selections. Maybe there was a reason he was at his last job for 10 years. If we don't see significant
progress next year, then a change maybe needed again. I hope CWM proves me wrong.

I went back and took another look at the last play from the USF game (USF web site). Two things were a problem before the play started: 1) although Newman was responsible for the guy taking the ball out, NO ONE CHALLENGED THE OUT-OF-BOUNDS PASS; 2) Davenport was actually making contact with his man. In other words, Davenport did NOT give himself any space within which to respond to what his man was doing. It was a simple roll and Davenport's man now is able to receive the ball free from any obstructions (with Davenport now giving chase). Ado had to come off his man to guard against the shot. Now Ado's man is wide open and that is where the ball went. Davenport, being slow afoot, was not able to get there in time. Game over. Because of Davenport's inability to play solid defense for a few seconds, the entire play broke down. Two questions: 1) why not guard the out-of-bounds pass (think of a quarterback with no pass rush. He is free to throw the ball where he wants)? 2) everyone in college basketball knows that Davenport CANNOT defend. Why have him on the floor at that crucial point in the game? These are the kinds of defensive plays that make UC basketball very WEAK. Cincinnati basketball is in a bad place right now because it CANNOT STOP ANYBODY. They lost on Senior Night to a team that had won only 1 conference game. The same thing happened to them at Tulsa where they were blown out. So far Miller and his coaching staff are NOT doing themselves any favors with their bad coaching decisions. By the way, UC has lost 3 straight games and now take a Texas road trip to end the season (Houston and SMU). With the way UC is now playing, there is NO DOUBT, they are going to lose the next two games to finish the season with FIVE STRAIGHT loses. As much as I do not want to say it, this team is worse than either of Brannen's two Cincinnati teams. Neither one of Brannen's teams had losing conference records. Nevertheless, we have to give Miller some time to correct the problems with the program and to bring in his type of players. Every new coach deserves that. On the other hand, it is an odd feeling to see this PROUD COLLEGE BASKETBALL PROGRAM with its very STRONG DEFENSIVE HISTORY get its %^&$#@#$ kicked night in and night out because it CANNOT STOP ANYBODY.

We've now lost 3 straight and 5 of the last 6. That streak will likely grow to 5 or 6 losses in a row and the first losing conference record in forever. We all agree the roster needs a major makeover. I'd like to think Miller has that in the works but as of now I only see 3 new players for next year. Hopefully none of them get cold feet after witnessing this mess down the stretch. My bigger concern is that I'm not sure just adding new players is going to fix the lack of development, fundamentals, effort and strategy we've seen. It's been astaounding how poorly they execute when agaiinst very weak oppornents. I agree Miller needs 2-3 years before we really know if he is capable to lead this program to perform to the standard we value. The early returns are awful!

I don't remember a year where I have watched so few games. I don't even think about it, until I check Cincinnati.com and see where they lost another one. This isn't a good situation. CWM seems overwhelmed. I think he should be given a year with his recruits, but that's about it. We cannot afford to become the next IU.

Here's the Box score from last night:

One thing to note. Viktor Lakhin was not on the bench at all last night. Not sure what that was about but I suspect they did not want him booed because he's Russian.Brent Wyrick

You may want to watch this as many times as a it takes you to figure what we were doing on defense here.

It appears to me Davenport was doing his normal undisciplined thing, not following the plan and being fundamentally atrocious. He has been out of system and out of control all year, both offensively and defensively, and has truly led to their dysfunction. My frustration, as with many of you, is why this hasn't been dealt with. I love Wes as a person and a leader but I have my concerns and only pray things evolve and improve going forward.
