We need Roy to light a fire under Wes. Wes is being too nice to these guys. He won't throw his players under the bus in public. It might be time do that.

It's way past time to being their friend and becoming their coach. It's time to start benching some people for lack of energy, lack of effort, or for playing hero ball. As someone has said I rather lose with players who show they care than lose with players who do not.

Wes, your job and career trajectory are at stake. Staying the course as you suggest in your press conferences isn't working. It's time for some tough love because this group of players and assistants is going to cost you the opportunity to continue coaching here or at any big time program. That is, of course, unless the entire problem is with you then I guess we know what that outcome will be.

I have been subjected to various leadership training. One thing I found wise was taught in complete opposite leadership environments. They said come in firm (not harsh or dictatorial). Consider how the people are responding. If need be, you can soften up, but few times can getting harder succeed. It may be too late with CWM for this group as he is their buddy as much as their coach. I pointed my fear out observing how CWM cuddled JD a few years back when JD went totally individual and out of control. He was very touchy/comforting for failures with him. I watched the eyes of the players on the bench. DS saw this. This is the CWM leadership model and I believe he has to live with its consequences. I doubt if he can bring in a tough assistant as that may bring division and undermine what little authority CWM has now.

When asked how he was able to handle Baseball superstars and win Championships, Sparky Anderson said this: You treat the men like men and the boys like boys. -- I guess CWM didn't understand when Roy W. was doing this in winning championships. Maybe CWM was treated like a boy and never got over it. I don't have a clue as I wasn't there.

I fear that may be the case, Leo, that Wes doesn't have it in him to get tough.

Being from Jersey I know a family that is very tough and yet nurturing. While Danny Hurley at U Conn isn't tearing it up this year, he has done well recently. I agree that what we are seeing from CWM right now isn't working. I also think you can be firm and authoritative without being a dictator. We might be shocked what some of these players today can handle for a chance to develop and win big time. I just know I don't want a repeat of the last 3 games. Maybe CWM will shock us all and the Cats will turn it around. If it doesn't happen, we are set for toughness only it will be tough times for the Cats.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagine, but I can't help but think with today's NIL money, tv money, alumni money / influence etc. just how much control a coach actually has in who plays and how much. I would think that with schools with limited budgets like UC would have boosters among others monitoring players and playing time. Just like the CSS hiring. Maybe JC's hands are tied as to making changes right now due to extenuating circumstances. But CWM is certainly not an imbecile. We can question his in game adjustments, rotations, clock management and even his talent evaluations in losing games, but to continue to do the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different outcome we all know is the definition of crazy. Or it is the definition of being dictated to as to who plays, who don't and who gets to be lead scorer based on players salary? Like I said I'm not expert, but if CWM trots out the same staring lineup against WVU tomorrow as he has the last six or seven games, I think it's safe to say that UC bball has it's place in the B12 conference for the foreseeable future already determined. Or maybe it's just my conspiracy theory mind working overtime.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. We're back home from the hospital, and thankfully for Oscar he slept through this game.
