UC's Miller, Merriweather to be in Big 12 Rucker Park program Tuesday

    https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...m/70414345007/

The University of Cincinnati's two head basketball coaches will be participating in a new Big 12 program reaching out to young players in the Conference's Rucker Park program called "Big 12 Hoops in the Park" this coming Tuesday.

Bearcat men's coach Wes Miller and women's coach Katrina Merriweather have been selected to be a part of the inaugural clinics which were a brainchild of current commissioner Brett Yormark. Only six men's and women's coaches were chosen to make the trip to New York City to lead the clinics.
    ...

In addition to UC's representation, Baylor's Scott Drew, BYU's Mark Pope, Kansas State's Jerome Tang, TCU's Jamie Dixon and Oklahoma State's Mike Boynton will participate. On the women's side, BYU's Amber Whiting, Houston's Ron Hughey, Kansas State's Jeff Mittie and Texas Tech's Krista Gerlich will attend.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Rucker - it is considered hallowed ground in NYC basketball circles - with some of the best players in the area playing.

Scott Springer with a summer look at the roster https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...2/70441473007/

Skillings/James/Fredrick/Griffith seem like the faces of the program right now -- at least from an NIL perspective (recognizing international guys can't $$)... article has some quotes from them.

Some background on Chris LePore leaving the program. Can't say I blame him given his situation. The part about him starts at paragraph 15.

Good article - I was going to share before I noticed the Chris LePore section.

Here's the premise of the article:

It's an annual tradition for coaches to complain about the offseason calendar, but it's seemingly never been worse than now. There is no offseason anymore.

Due to 1) the transfer portal, 2) NIL earning potential for players, 3) the bonus COVID year that's cycling two more seasons, and 4) a recruiting calendar that is both cumbersome and outmoded for the current climate, the collective mood around college basketball isn't grouchiness or agitation — it's despondency.

Amazing transformation. It sure is gonna suck if He and
Aziz are deemed ineligible. With our luck in relation to transfer portal additions in the past it wouldn't surprise me if it don't go our way

Scott Springer reporting from the Joel Cornette Foundation golf tournament https://www.cincinnati.com/story/spo...2/70495790007/

Bill Self, Kansas basketball head coach: "It's a great league for Cincinnati to be in and it's good for the Big 12 that Cincinnati's in it. I've known Wes a while and I'm excited about the direction he'll take the program. I think it's good for Cincinnati but it (Big 12) is highly, highly, highly competitive. In basketball, there are no nights off! Their program will grow because of our league and our league will be better for it as well."

Jordan Cornette, most recently of ESPN: "There's a lot of depth there and there's no easy games. But, I was around Coach Wes Miller's group this summer. I got to see how they were acclimating. It's a pretty impressive group. Coach Wes Miller has a Top 25 basketball team. It's going to be interesting if they get eligibility from those bigs, they're going to have great depth in the frontcourt."

Saw some "Monster Factory" numbers on social media and I believe Ody Oguama won some honor for being the top guy in strength/conditioning this off season.

                              Monster Factory Combine Testing Records
                              - Max Vertical Touch -- Jamile Reynolds, 12'4"
                              - 3/4 Court Sprint - Day Day Thomas, 2.94 seconds

                              185 bench - 20+ reps
                              - CJ Anthony (23)
                              - Ody Oguama (22)
                              - John Newman (21)

                              Max Vert Touch
                              - Jamille Reynolds, 12'4"
                              - Aziz Bandaogo, 12'2"

                              Lane Agility Test
                              - Day Day Thomas, 10.16 seconds
                              - Dan Skillings Jr., 10.31 seconds

                              Max Vertical Jump
                              - Jizzle James, 43.5"
                              - Day Day Thomas, 42.5"
                              - John Newman III, 41"

Well, John Newman seems healthy right now.

Further, we just lost David DeJulius, Mika Adams-Woods, and the often-injured Rob Phinisee and just replaced them with two dudes who aren't particularly tall but are much more athletic and bouncy.

                              Also...Jamille Reynolds wow.
