Big XII tourney ‘25

We were competitive in the middle 30 minutes. But Iowa St went on a 10-0 run in the opening 5 minutes and then an 11-0 run in the final 4 minutes. That was more than the final margin.
Nobody was good in this game, but Jizzle was our best player believe it or not. He posted a measly 0.5 net points. He filled up the stat sheet with three triples, 2 assists, 3 rebounds, a block, and steal. But he took 20 shots and his usage was over 40%. Simas was the only other player with positive net points (barely) because he went 2 of 5 from three and made the two technical free throws.
Mitchell was our worst player with negative 3.8 net points. We barely used him at all in our offense and he went just 1 of 3 from the field. We also left him stranded in the post against bigger players because we still insist on playing two small guards and Simas. Everyone else had slightly negative net points.
It's easy to defend big post players with a lineup of all athletic wings if you double and switch. But you have to play an ALL WING LINEUP. Jizzle, Day Day, and Simas is not that. And it also lets you get to the rim more. Not with back to the basket post play but with slashing. We only scored 12 points at the rim today because we play small or unathletic guys who can't finish there.
We got outplayed at very position - guards, wings, and bigs. It's going to take a lot more than extra weight to fix that.

Page did not play and we lost by 20pts? So is it safe to say, what Wes was using was not working?
Rayvon who is a slasher and has scoring ability did not play! Regardless if he can't defend, neither can the other Starting 5 today.
So one of the real questions to Miller is, why not? Why not give those young players a chance when it's not working with your starters?

Rayvon's gotta stop fouling. He picked up 3 fouls in only 4 minutes yesterday and fouls 7 times per 40 minutes on the season. At this point might as well play him until he fouls out though, even if he doesn't make it to the second media timeout.

Griffith as sedz says, fouls too much. He's not great on offense and if you want to get minutes on defense, you can't foul all the time. I hope he sticks around for another year, as the potential is there and I think he'll reach it and be a significant contributor next year if he stays.

They don’t know what a pivot foot is.
Also quite a few fouls on ISU not called.
That being said- UC was horrible & got their
butts handed to them.

He is not quick enough/not enough effort to be a passable defender, he makes no attempt to rebound at his size, he just drifts around the outside on offense looking for heat check 3s, he isn't able to get himself open and we don't have a good enough offense to get him good looks. Every minute he is in, Reed or Mitchell have to try to defend 2 players and are therefore less effective on the offensive end. He gives up far more on defense and with lazy passes and lackadaisical effort on the boards for the tiny amount of shot-making he is contributing. it's maddening to watch.
Most do some good things but the bad outweighs the
good. Not gonna win many against good teams that way.

late in the game, dan hoard was talking about the crown tourny, and the time off - terry nelson made a crack that, with the portal, he hoped that UC would be able to field a team. I agree with others on here - this offseason could be really wild.
maybe two weeks ago, chad brendel filled in on 1530 - he was talking about how UC and XU had a similar amount of NIL to use on the basketball team - XU chose one way to build its roster, and UC wanted to emphasize the wings - they also let Lahkin and Reynolds go , who at least gave you something of an inside game. i don't have the mumbo jumbo crap on it, but maybe wes will figure out that you need some bulk in this league.
Was it because he just wanted to shoot 3’s ?
Seemed like he missed quite a few games for
UC- was that discipline or injury ?

Didnt watch the game, didn't want to watch because I knew the outcome was going be exactly what we've seen all year long. I know it is mandated for UC to participate in the Crown tourney because of their record in the B12 but I sincerely doubt they will have players available to play. I expect many to bail out and portal. And you know what it would not upset me. Something drastic has to occur in order for people to realize that this once great program is an embarrassment right now. Even the sports talking heads and game announcers can't believe the product Miller is putting on the floor .

But I don't want to sacrifice skill and quickness to get it. No more Reynolds or Vogt. Herb Jones or Pete Mickeal or Kenyon Martin or Justin Jackson or Tari Eason would be great in this league despite their lack of bulk. Or you can do it with scheme, as every good team that plays 4 guards or 4 wings has done.
