Wasn't Betsey one of Wes's heralded recruits for this year? I don't know that I saw him enough to truly say, but I didn't see all that much out of him when he was on the court. Terrible defensively, inconsistent on offense. Again, limited time, but enough to at least form some opinion. I've seen enough of Skillings, he needs to move on, there's part of me that says NIL impacted him as much as anything. Other than suspicion of injury dogging him this year, he totally regressed from last year. I don't think Mitchell fits here, either. I think it's time to say without some 6'8" - 6'10" bangers who excel around the rim, I see nothing changing next year +/- a few B12 wins.

Dead on Brother! Betsy played sparingly as a Freshman and mainly took 3pt shots. Not sure how much of that was scheme, or simply a comfort level. But Betsy's probably has the highest ceiling of all the current players. Would be a shame to lose such a talent.

Seems like Betsey's high rating was mostly based on potential, he could become a stretch four who can shoot lights out from three and maybe develop an inside game too. He probably has a lot of people around him telling him he's good enough now or that he needs playing time to develop. I imagine the guys with tons of potential, but who still need to develop are some of the hardest to convince to keep working hard and that their time will come. They want their time to be now.Originally posted by Bearcat93 View PostWasn't Betsey one of Wes's heralded recruits for this year? I also think the players (and those around them) are probably not confident in Wes’s ability to develop. I know I’m not. This year revealed a lot of gaps in Wes’s ability to construct a B12 caliber team, let alone develop one and show sharp in-game coaching.Originally posted by zykarious View Post

Agreed. The Louisville way was to bring in 8 transfers who had a 4+ BPM last year (Hepburn, Scott, Hadley, Smith, Traore, Waterman, Pryor, Johnson), another who had a 4+ BPM in 2023 (Edwards), and a defensive specialist who had a 3+ DBPM (Anselem-Ibe). They brought in 10 proven producers and one four star freshman (Rooths).Originally posted by bearcatlifer View PostWe should look at Louisville and copy whatever approach they have taken. Of course they hired Pat Kelsey the Cincy roots guy we should have hired.
We should absolutely try to copy that, if we can afford it. The first step is to retain the four guys on our roster right now that fit the mold.

I guess I should have put more effort into my post lol. What you said is exactly what I should have said in my post as that’s what I meant.Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post
A UC student told me he had removed “UC basketball player” from his profile. FWIW.Last edited by GunSlinger; 03-19-2025, 12:14 AM.

On the topic of social media-influenced rumors, Dan Skillings posted a photo on his Instagram story yesterday of an empty Fifth Third court, a time-stamp of 8:59 am, and a caption of "watch how I bounce back".
The interpretation is that he is committing to working out (presumably by himself) in an effort to be a better Cincinnati Bearcat in the future.
It could also be smoke and mirrors to keep fans off his back ahead of a transfer portal announcement.

bottom line, and i don't have the mumbo jumbo on this, but none of knows what's going through the heads of these young guys. the above skillings caption is a perfect example. is he committed to getting better and coming back, or, does he mean that he's going to bounce back somewhere else?
on UL / Kelsey, you all do remember that he has ties to norwood college?
