Ah, that makes perfect sense and explains the bad rebounding. I can handle bad rebounding if we're keeping teams away from the rim.Originally posted by zykarious View Post
Yeah, Chad talked about it in the podcast (I assume he has connections with Calhoun through the Huggin tree). Calhoun realized he's not good enough at coaching defense and hired Eric Haut (who recently accepted the HC job atTarleton State) to essentially be the defensive coordinator. Also said Utah St. runs a match-up zone in the Mick style, which may contribute to their defensive rebounding woes.
Last night against Nevada, Utah State went 17 for 28 at the rim, 27 for 35 at the stripe, and only took 6 midrange shots! Cincinnati fans have never seen modern basketball like that. I'll take some defensive lumps to have a taste.

one quick question. We had Tyler Betsey and Shon Abaev. What did WM get out of them. Tillery showed promise but all you got was a cheerleader on the bench in crunch time -- and a loss. JC can't fail for the third time. A new HC will be hustling. The money, the conference and national TV is on our side. My first post spoke of the proper training as a team and individual maturation is a win the first year. Those are pretty high goals after the waste of talent we seen the last 7 years. My hope is to see UC return to being the feared and winning Bearcats which we all love. I am looking forward to watching UC basketball and its winning tradition.

I watched a little of the Utah / San Diego State game just out of curiosity. Utah has two or three starters that are underclassmen that I'm sure would come with Calhoun if he is indeed the guy. But at any rate whoever the next coach is he will bring some of current roster with him and it's possible he's been in contact with others who are delayed to hit the portal. One of the few benefits of the portal and the NIL is that building a competitive roster is easier to do if the money is there.Originally posted by leo from jersey View Post
wait and see before you play Gable. The sun is going come up tomorrow and so will UC. I would say work is already underway for transfers even if many don't think so.

A quick google search indicates some really good coaches have relatively affordable buyouts. Of the list, Pat Kelsey has a buyout around 9 million. If UC wants to make a splash, taking another Loserville coach would make a splashRed and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

Terry Nelson on Bob Huggins returning as Cincinnati Bearcats Men's Basketball coach: "No. I think he ran his course, here. We love Huggs. I don't think it's realistic to get the expectation out there that Bob's going to make a comeback. People always wants to go back to what worked. As much we love Huggs and I love Huggs, and everyone would love to see him back, I don't think that's realistic."
