  • Big 12 talk is back thanks to Texas.

Fire up the Big 12 talk.

Orangebloods.com story in the DMN has DeLoss Dodds stepping aside as AD at Texas by the end of 2013. If this happens, big if, The Big 12 might expand in 2015. Texas and it's money pile is the big hold up to adding teams. According to the OB article the new AD may step in as soon as mid year with Dodds taking a consultant role and have input on hiring to replace Mack Brown, Rick Barnes and Auggie Guarrido(sp?), the baseball coach.

Is Chip Brown right this time? Who knows..but where there's smoke.....

Here is some very interesting info on Texas and Div 4. Listen to segments 2&3, there's mention of UC in 3. But most disturbing is we could be leap frogged by N. Illinois or Buffalo. Don't know who this guy is.

Wow, what a flippin mess. Still though, with the poor start that Mack Brown is having, i wouldnt be shocked if Saban is their coach next January.

i would agree, but see very little tie in with expansion. texas looks out for texas, so if the bricks fell into place to sweeten their pot(s), then maybe so, but it's about the $ right now.

Subsequent stories have come out that they have been trying to get Saban since the day after last year's title game. Mack Brown is toast.

Agree, Univ of Texas has more money than they know what to do with. But if they really want Saban, their "pots" are going to be quite a bit lighter. This will blow up the college coaching salary stakes once again.

Saban has a machine in Alabama. All he has to do is reload every year. He already make $5M a year. Why would he want to Texas to rebuild a program in a suspect conference. I just don't see Texas as a step up from Alabama and the SEC.

They only reason would be GREED... there are reports that Texas would be willing to put as much as 10+million per year on the table for him, that is more than NFL head coaches and every college in the country would hate them because that will screw up every other schools head coaching contracts in the future...

Saban has now come out and said he not interested because he's too old to start over at this point.

That begs the question if not Saban then who because the regents at Texas have undermined Mack Brown and he's obviously gone. Money is now on Muschamp.

You know how that usually works; when someone issues the standard public denial that means they're probably talking seriously through back channels.

He will not leave unless it is his dream job. Hum, where have we heard that before?

He won't leave unless there are about to be heavy sanctions laid down on the program.
In loving memory, I will be a fan for both of us.

                              > Another rumored candidate, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, has repeatedly denied that he would be interested in the Texas job.

It's pretty sad when the commissioner of the league is rumored to be in running for the AD job of a school who he supposedly administers.
