I am of the opinion that UC is #1 on the list of potential candidates for several reasons, chief among them is the relationship and campaigning UC has done directly and over a long period of time.

We have discussed and for the most part agree on the multitude of Pros for UC; however, I'd like to gauge if you feel that the campaigning has been as much of a factor as I believe.

I don't know if there's anyway to know. Aside from some level of support from Gee and Boren, I have seen no information from any other member of the B12 brass one way or the other, aside from the Oklahoma Broadway producer. Unfortunately, as chair of the trustees, he undoubtedly holds some sway.

If consensus is key for CCG, expansion, and network, is Boren saying he could move to block CCG if they can't get the other two? All three or none.

I've always believed that UC would be the #1 choice if the Big 12 ever expanded.

        • A few of the big 12 writers had a synopsis of Boren's statements yesterday to the OU BoR and press. Here's some of them from John Shinn. Focus on the stuff from 5/12

          • Something to note today that's somewhat related. CUSA has just about closed a deal with ESPN for 300-400K in rights fees per school. They were getting 1Mill per school in rights fees in the previous deal. Ouch.

              • David Boren appears to flip 180 degrees on expansion in this article. So is Boren just being a good politician here, or is he back pedaling now because he realizes he doesn't have the votes to move ahead with expansion? Who knows.

The truth is the Big 12 doesn't have to do anything........ever ........if they don't want to. The risk of doing nothing is that OU and Kansas will leave when the GOR expires in 2024 (or sooner if they can wiggle out of the GOR). But that doesn't bother Texas cause the boys in Austin will just replace them with a couple of schools that they can slap around and abuse they way they do everybody else in that conference

The problem with that approach is when the current tv deals expire the new ones won't be worth anything, and if KSU, TCU, Texas Tech, etc., can't see that then they deserve what they get - which won't be much. (And don't bet on OU & KU being around by anything like 2024 if the above scenario is the one that plays out.)

                          • The UT beat writers have put out a pretty good synopsis on the Texas point of view this morning.

"One Big 12 AD and Bob Bowlsby say the Big 12 is competitively stable with 10 teams." Yawn.
Someone tell me again why UC thinks they're getting into the Big 12?

                              • I think this is getting simple. We don't have enough votes unless Texas vacates the premises.
