But my best guess is that the conference will stay put with 10 members and then they will renegotiate the television deal. This was their only objective from the beginning. They just used all the possible expansion schools for negotiating leverage with the networks.
    I think you're spot on.
R.I.P. BigX11......I mean Little X. You're not getting in to the playoffs (again). Your "marquee" program (Texas) is in disarray, and Oklahoma's program is not much better. Your best team this year (Baylor) is a shining example of everything that's wrong with college sports (ethically challenged).

I wonder if UC is better off at this point in the AAC given the dysfunction of the BigXII. And, any benefits for UC will be short lived in the BigXII, because I believe UT and OU will leave the conference at their earliest opportunity, not to mention the fact that UC will likely not receive its full share of conference revenues in the first three to five years. IF UC gets an invite and accepts it, I feel that they will be left holding the bag just like they were in the BEast.

I agree the Big 12 as currently structured is a mess - BUT - and it is a big BUT - even a reduced share of their revenue stream is a LOT more than what we are getting now. Additionally if there is a restructuring, especially to 64, we are a LOT more likely to be included if we're in a P-5 conference than not. Also there is a significant difference in recruiting (assuming TT can keep assistants more easily in a P-5 situation). Finally, let's be honest, even in their current reduced state, wouldn't you rather see Texas and Oklahoma here as opposed to ECU or Tulsa? So, yes would I rather be in the ACC, sure, but they aren't asking - and what is sad, the Big 12 may not be either.

          • Since the Big 12 has a tendency to do the exact opposite of what the media reports, I think the Big 12 expands on Monday. I'm still going with four teams. Two football only and the other two all sports.

PLEASE PLEASE!! LET THIS BE TRUE!!
As much as I dislike Texas, I know that the Big 12 is our last best hope. We need to get in if we're going to breath some life (and money) back into our athletic department. Anyone that reads this board knows how cynical I am about the Big 12 and Texas. But does anyone else find it amazing how quiet UC has been during this entire process ???

I like the way you think and tend to ageee. The new teams won't have vote to delete GOR. A new media deal will be negotiated without GOR in next 2 years with deleting current GOR as part of deal letting OU and UT bolt, except OU stays and is happier to be rid of Texas.

                • To their credit, they have played it very cool and with a lot of class. They have not conducted their business in the media and have kept the leaks to a minimum. We are lead to believe they have handled things as well as could be expected with this dysfunctional group whos butt we are forced to kiss. We need the Big 12 even if they are a less than desirable bedfellow but I don't think we have prostituted ourselves for inclusion. It appears (another dangerous assumption) that they have made their case, are confident that if expansion occurs it will include us, and are more patiently than the rest of us waiting for the call.

                  • SI now reporting that most likely outcome is more TV money for Big 12 to not expand. If true, thanks again to our "partners" at ESPN.

                    • My completely uninformed guess is they have no decision and push back the decision some more. There's not enough rumors either way...and there's always a good number of sources and leaks before anything like this happens.

                      • How many times do they have to push it back before some of the teams start to say no thanks.

As soon as the money equals out between the two conferences which is probably never. Still have to take the bad deal even if it's temporary. We need the influx of cash.

Agreed, but I guess it depends on how much our payout is reduced and for how long. It's possible it could blow up before we ever get a full share.

A partial share will be at least 2-3 times what we get now.

Not sure if any sources are right, but I've seen reports that we may actually start with less than we get now.
