I do not see how UMass moves the needle for the MAC except possibly lowering it.

They left the MAC about ten years ago. I'm not sure why any school (aside from the Irish) would settle for being an independent. Scheduling is nigh unto impossible and recruiting probably is worse.

I was reading somewhere that they left in 2007 and they were only an affiliate member in football.

DIck "Hoops" Weiss, who is a hall of fame reporter is currently reporting he's getting credible stuff on FSU and Clemson considering the Big XII. That would be completely wild as I think everyone has them pegged to the SEC. Makes me wonder if Dick has gotten misinformation here and didn't catch it. He's about 80 at this point.

It wouldn't suprise me if it's real simply becuase The BIg XII TV contract is better than the ACC's but I suspect this might be a bait report from the FSU folks trying to get someone's attention.
