And again the article claims UC knew he was betting. If that’s the case then CSS and John Cunningham should be fired.“Two of the eight games were against ranked teams, and all were Big 12 conference games. In those eight games, Sorsby had 10 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. In all other games over the 2024-25 seasons, he had 35 touchdowns and five interceptions.”
Once a hero for the everyman, the rise and fall of Texas Tech football was as remarkable as it was preventable.Comment

"While it may seem like a storm cloud hanging over the sport, there are voices, like ESPN analyst Jordan Rodgers, suggesting it could be a catalyst for much-needed reform."

Statement on behalf of Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark:
“Shortly before the start of today's Big 12 Executive Board meeting, the Conference received a letter from the Texas Attorney General’s office notifying the Conference of potential legal action from Texas Tech if the Conference pursues certain actions under its Bylaws. We are taking time with our legal counsel to understand the concerns of the state and will meet again with the full Board next week.
We moved forward with our Executive Board today in preparation for our full Board meeting on Monday. We had a good and informative discussion. Sentiment among the Executive Board was no different from what we heard from the ADs earlier this week.
Our discussion with the full Board will determine our course of action, and all options remain on the table.”Comment

I have a question for the group. Did UC ever win their $1M lawsuit against Sorsby for break of contract?
Another thought that would be funny is if Sorsby plays all year and TT makes the CFP. Then the NCAA case gets moved up prior to the CFP and it is ruled that TT has to forfeit all of their wins and gets ejected from the CFP.Comment

Re UC's suit: Still pending but not going anywhere unless/until the overall Sorsby situation reaches its conclusion. Re voiding victories, Cody Campbell has more disposable cash that he would employ to defeat such an "outrage" (as I imagine he'd respond). Then, TTU can have the same company that designed and employed UCF's 2017 National Championship signage do likewise in Lubbock.
That is interesting.

It’s far easier for a QB to lose against the spread than win, assuming that a fix is in. I don’t know about anybody else, but if betting I wouldn’t touch Texas Tech at all, ever.Comment

I don't gamble, but if I was running any of the on-line gambling sites, I'd never put TTU's games up for wagers.Comment

The B12 filed suit this morning against TTU, its leadership & Ken Paxton. The conference seeks a declaratory judgment that the B12 is permitted to sanction TTU under its by-laws and First Amendment rights. The presidents will still meet sometime today.

Congress and the "Protect American Sports" Act, if passed would rule Sorsby ineligible. It basically states that the NCAA has the authority to enforce its own rules.

The NCAA filed an emergency appeal as well. I say this as a UC football fan since the 1960’s. If Sorsby was still here, I’d insist on booting him off the team, and if UC played him I’d never go to another game. I’m sorry he was ever here. Anyway ..
Transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby will not play for Texas Tech this fall and instead plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft, ending an unprecedented legal fight over the college eligibility of a player who had acknowledged betting on college and pro sports, including some wagers on his own team while at Indiana four years ago. Cody Campbell, the billionaire booster who is chairman of the Texas Tech regents, wrote in an open letter Monday night that Sorsby will not be part of the team. “This decision was made with Brendan and his family and is purely an output of practical analysis of the situation,” Campbell wrote.Comment

The Utah AG just chimed in to second the Oklahoma AG's opinion in support of the B12's positions:
Ross Dellenger on X: "A third state AG, this one Utah, has sent a letter to the Big 12 backing the league’s potential sanctions of Texas Tech and criticizing the Texas AG’s legal threats to the conference. “The harm from Texas Tech’s proposed course of action is not merely legal—it is structural.” https://t.co/N7BwogHWRx" / X
Now, the Kansas AG jumped in to offer assistance.Last edited by swilsonsp4; 06-15-2026, 03:14 PM.Comment
