Texas Tech is being sneaky at best in recruiting Sorsby's replacement. They might be getting a transfer from UCLA who is entering the transfer portal as a track athlete who can play football.

I am well in my 60's and have been working fulltime for over 40 years. I do not have $10 to spare on gambling outside of my personal expenses. I do not understand how a college kid can throw away $90,000 in gambling. This should be a case study for the NCAA to put a halt to the lucrative money being thrown around in college sports.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Although he continued betting, this article states he used his brother-in-law's phone to make bets. I've also seen reports he had friends making bets for him. All this to say that if the only knowledge UC had was his phone information, it's conceivable that they didn't find anything.

The brother-in-law angle seems weird unless the B-I-L had a second phone that he furnished Sorsby. And using friends to place bets? He must have had a bunch of time on his hand to coordinate all of that, time that he probably could have used to be involved in activities to improve his FB performance.

It's a real problem to be involved in gambling while playing - after the fact (and maybe during the fact) his performance really starts to raise questions (which could be unfair, but he's lost the benefit of doubt). I look back and, like other think back on plays with a jaundice eye now. The weird first series interception against AZ, the anger on some of the play calls, the multiple times he could or should have handed off to the RB on goal line plays instead of usually keeping it himself (I wrote it off at the time that he was selfish, but maybe now, hmmm), etc. His gambling activities have clouded the waters.

The rules clearly say his college career should be over. But if I was like him and betting on it, I’d bet some judge somewhere will let him play.

LOL - betting on his own case outcome. That is funny and not funny all at once. The judge who was a Texas Tech alum - both undergraduate and law school - has recused himself from the case. So it is no longer a certainty that his lawsuit will result in his eligibility. But, like you, I think it is likely.

If the NCAA allows BS to resume his collegiate career then that just makes the notion that the NCAA is only looking out for their individual / schools bank accounts even more obvious. They never ever had any back bone in the past and with the wild west that is now the NIL on complete turmoil, the average fan will now never know for certain if the better team won or if the odds makers. I'm certainly glad that the young man got the help he needed but I don't foresee many NFL teams knocking down his door either. Can anyone say Art Schlichter.

The NCAA have made it plain in their court filings that they are staunchly opposed to allowing Sorsby to play. If the judge says otherwise, the NCAA will appeal.

Not just you, the same thing occurred to me as well. He probably wasn’t taking bribes to throw games, but the thought occurred to me, my wife said the same thing.

if true, it seems like it could be a "for cause" reason to move away from the dynamic duo, without (much of) a financial hit to the school
