His recruiting profile evaluation https://247sports.com/Player/Arrinten-Page-46132338/ "Defensively, he has tools to protect the rim, but didn’t assert himself in that area as consistently as expected this season, and similarly rebounds in spurts right now." Of course that was two years ago, so hopefully he has improved.

His rebounding numbers aren't particularly impressive. His 11.4% total rebounds was closer to Newman (10.5%) than Skillings (13.1) and far from our big men (15.8% Lakhin, 15.9% Reynolds and 17.6% Bandaogo). He did improve to 13.6% in conference and his offensive rebound percentage (8.1%) was not bad, but again not at the level of our bigs (all 10.5% or higher). For his size, his rebounding numbers are not particularly good and effort generally is a big factor in rebounding.

We were one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country, so keep that in mind when comparing the numbers. 8% is about average for a big nationally. Defensive rebounding is sometimes more about scheme than ability. You'll see a lot of teams box out bigs but leave a defensive board to a guard to kickstart transition. We did that with DDJ under Brannen. Boogie, Kobe, and Bronny had high defensive rebounding rates, so looks like USC did that as well. I think Page would be a good rebounder if his role required it.

      • UK 5star recruit DJ Wagner enters the portal. He's a Nike guys for NIL. Longshot, but he needs a fresh start after a disappointing season for Big Blue.

        • Off topic in that Texas is leaving the Big 12, but the Longhorns picked up three guys yesterday (including two from Indiana State) while the talented Tyrese Hunter and Dillon Mitchell have both gone portaling. Another wild day of portaling.

I have not seen this but Page did visit as a HS student so he pretty much knows what's up and may not feel the need for a visit.

I believe he actually visited UC twice (including at least once while Jizzle James also on campus https://twitter.com/Williams_Justin/...56266350002177)

                      • Regarding Page, I think Wes made a great connection with him and Collier. There may be some concerns about his motor and work effort: if Wes likes him, that's good enough for me.

                        • Not a perfect comparison, but former top 10 recruit and 7-footer Kel'el Ware (6.6 and 4.1 as a freshman at Oregon) was knocked for his motor. Literally Google "Kel'el Ware motor" and there are numerous articles ... Dude just averaged 15.9 and 9.9 as a sophomore at Indiana and looks like a near lock for the first round of the NBA Draft. We haven't seen UC develop bigs under Wes Miller thus far, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at a recruit because other people--most of whom have probably never watched him play--are claiming motor issues.

6'4 junior guard from Springfield, OH (should have one year of eligibility) - 15.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists this season (30.8% from 3, 75.3% FT), 2.5 turnovers per game as well. Topped 20 points several times including 22 against New Mexico and 21 against WVU.

Moss is down to Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Ohio State ... OSU has sure been mentioned a lot this week with some talented guards.

I think "motor" is one of those words that's thrown around when people can't explain a player underperforming or overperforming expectations. If Page made better decisions with the ball, we wouldn't be saying anything about his motor even if his defense and rebounding were the same. Same with Jamille. I don't think his motor was the problem, it's that he made poor decisions with the ball and doesn't have lateral quickness or good shot block timing. Page is a young, inexperienced player who can still learn to harness his ability.
