  • Can't post every Big 12-related portal item but Jonathan Givony of ESPN is reporting Arizona State's Jayden Quaintance had surgery for a torn ACL and will be cleared for contact in September, exploring entering the portal (I guess pursuing the 2026 NBA Draft)

Not many of the guys were playing any D. This is an offensive showcase event. I did note, though, that Abaev, who is quite slight of build compared to the others on the floor, did not contest rebounds. He's not a complete package at this point. He's a talented incoming freshman.
Yeah, I know these types of games are basically exhibition games. That is why I mentioned that you cannot read too much into these types of games. However, it did appear that Abaev was a tad bit over-matched and not as quick-footed as the other athletes. Hey, what do I know. I am not a coach.

I'd welcome Jayden to recover in Clifton. Wes is familiar with him, and we have a great medical staff. The strength and conditioning program will help him recover fully.
Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

        Intimidate! Dominate! Celebrate!

Quaintance's father said that they are looking to see who has the best group of talent to surround Jayden. He did not, though, mention that his son won't come on the cheap. That is a given, so no need to go there.

          • UC in the top 6 for Illinois’ Tre White. The rising senior has also played at UL and USC. Averages over 10 ppg this season. https://x.com/dushawnlondon1/status/...A2NHZ_hNyS2mFg

White would be one of my top targets. He's an efficient slashing wing with 61% true shooting, 7% OReb, 45% FT rate, and just a 13% turnover rate. His 6.1 BPM was 3rd best on a top 20 team.

                • Chad Brendel said on tonight’s BCJ podcast that he’s of the opinion / it’s more likely than not that Jizzle will be back next season. Not a lock but I don’t think Chad would say that without feeling pretty confident.

                  • 6'7 forward JaKobe Coles from Grand Canyon has entered the portal as a grad transfer. 14.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 2.1 apg.

He averaged 10 ppg and 3.8 rpg at TCU in 23/24 and was someone of interest when he entered the portal last spring.

The problem is that he has exhausted his eligibility. He played his Covid year (20/21) at Butler then played 3 full seasons at TCU before transferring to Grand Canyon for this past season.

If anyone can fill me in on what is angle for an extra year may be then please inform me because I am very confused.

He only played 6 games as a freshman, suffering a bad knee injury -- perhaps double-dipping on a medical redshirt and COVID year

                      • Speaking of TCU...

Possibly interesting, familiar portal entrant yesterday: 6'11, 260 lb. junior Ernest Udeh. The former McDonald's AA from Orlando began his career at Kansas and has been at TCU the last two seasons, where he most recently averaged 6.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 assists per game. He is an efficient scorer around the rim but the typically mediocre FT shooter. He hasn't lived up to his high school ranking but an intriguing profile.

If a player can push his "Covid year" by taking a redshirt in 2021, that would seem to give an extra year to a lot of players, like Aziz and Vik Lakhin.

NEWS: Kansas wing AJ Storr has entered the transfer portal, sources told ESPN. Averaged 6.1 points this season after averaging 16.8 points as a sophomore at Wisconsin in 2023-24.

                            • @DushawnLondon1: "UAB transfer Chris Coleman completed a zoom with Cincinnati last night and is planning to meet with several others via zoom & visits following the dead period."

Christian Coleman is listed as a 6'8, 205 lb. senior that averaged 11.6 and 7.1 rebounds this past year.

Very confusing to figure out his eligibility:
                              - 2021-22: played at an NAIA school
                              - 2022-23: played a season of junior college ball
                              - Last two seasons played at UAB

Career 65% FT shooter? Seems like a Bearcat.

Coleman posted a 1.5 BPM this season, and 3.4 in 11 games against top 100 competition. He's a great rebounder (12% OReb) who takes care of the ball, but he's a poor shooter (only 28% on 101 midrange attempts), and a poor defender (negative defensive BPM).
