  • Have any Bearcats entered the portal?

    Comment

    • Sam Kayser of 247HSHoops tweets that UC and many other high major programs have shown interest in Arizona's KJ Lewis (10.8 / 4.6 / 2.9) - two years left

He also had UC as a school in touch with Vanderbilt's MJ Collins (7.4 / 2.3) - one year left

I could have sworn the announcer said Day Day enteted the Portal and wondered where he'd go.

Lewis had a 6.0 BPM this year and 6.8 as a freshman. He's an inefficient scorer but he gets to the FT line a lot, passes well for a wing, and is a good defender.

Collins had a 0.1 BPM. Doesn't really stand out in any areas. He's a poor shooter who takes care of the ball and doesn't foul. The most statistically vanilla player I've seen us connect with.

How mobile is this guy at 7'0" 280? Can he hedge and get back to play the pick and roll? I have never seen him play. He most definitely will not get pushed around in the paint. Can he defend?

                          • I know that this may not be the proper place to talk about recruits, but since we are talking about portal players and players that may come into the program, what the heck let's talk about it. I saw Shon Abaev in the McDonalds All American Game tonight. I came in late in the 3rd quarter. Abaev had a bad couple of minutes. He was taken out of the game after two consecutive ball handling turnovers (the ball was taken from him twice) and he also let two guys drive the ball right by him to the rim.

I know that you cannot read too much into a few bad moments. However, after watching him handle the ball and play defense, I do not think he is going to come in and take over. On the other hand, you never know about these things. But from what I saw of him, depending on who is still left on the roster, he is not going to move out Mitchell, Reed, or Skillings. He appears to be a point forward. He brings the ball up the floor. The problem is he is not good at protecting the ball once he is pressured a little. It will be interesting to see how Miller uses him.

A couple things about the McD AA game. They have a media timeout roughly midway through each quarter and generally sub everyone in/out at that time. Shon Abaev was playing with an injured hand, which may have contributed to his ballhandling issues.

Not many of the guys were playing any D. This is an offensive showcase event. I did note, though, that Abaev, who is quite slight of build compared to the others on the floor, did not contest rebounds. He's not a complete package at this point. He's a talented incoming freshman.

                              • Coach Wes friend and new Bearcats Bball GM, Corey Evans should provide CWM the help needed to rebuild a solid program.
