That's assuming that the multiple available slots will be filled with backups. UC are not going to be able to afford players such as Quaintance and Toppin. The staff will be able to fill the remaining openings with B12 starters, but not until after the most expensive ones have moved.

The B1G and SEC have financial advantages over UC, as do other schools, such as BYU, KS and TX Tech, who have high rollers in support. That's the environment we're in.

      • Yes that's the point I was facetiously making. Millers record of portal acquisitions is less than stellar in competing in the B12. Frustrating!

        • UC has contacted 6’5 guard Rakease Passmore, a highly rated recruit who did very, very little this year as a freshman for KU.

          Bring Wes all the guards!

If he can get a few physical guards who play bigger than their size, a 3 or 4 guard lineup would likely be cheaper to build. The taller guys are, the fewer of them there are. Less supply, more demand, higher price tag. Stock up on relatively cheap guards who can play minutes as a backup 3 or even backup 4, go all in on a couple of big men.

Could a 3 or 4 guard lineup compete physically in the big 12? That might be a tough ask, we managed last year with Simas playing a lot of time at the 4 and Reed played a lot of 4 this year, but we also weren't physical enough.

40% turnover rate . No wonder he didn't play much. He did see 7+ minutes in 10 games, so it's not like he was only playing in the final minute of blowouts. He has a lot of work to do. Negative 7.4 BPM.

Houston and Texas Tech play 3 small guards. Those were the top two teams in the conference. You just have to be able to rebound and defend as a team. Our guards didn't rebound and we don't double effectively. But that absolutely can change with different guards and a new scheme. I don't like the offense Wes runs, but he had success defensively with small guards at UNCG. I'm sure we can replicate that.

                  • 6'9 Achor Achor has entered the transfer portal.

He averaged 16.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a year ago at Samford. He played in 7 games this year for Kansas State (7.3 ppg) before leaving the team for personal reasons. Maybe one year left?

Here is what sedz said about him last year:

Achor does everything well. He can score efficiently inside and out at high usage and he gets to the free throw line. He's a great rebounder and shot blocker. And against top 100 competition his BPM was actually a bit higher at 7.3. He put up 23 points and 7 rebounds against Kansas in the tourney.

                    I'm all in on Achor.

It's possible that he goes to IN with Drew Adams, who is a longtime family friend. Hickman still needs to receive NCAA hardship clearance.

I had high hopes for Hickman, and it's too bad we never got to see what he can do when healthy.

He was UC's answer to XU's often random player who provides a spark with threes off the bench in the Crosstown Shootout.

That and him showing off a good vertical jump in the preseason was all I remember.

Yeah, out of all the portal entries so far, this one bothers me the least.
