This has nothing to do with Big 12 football but Miami lost yesterday about the same way that UC lost to Ohio Miami. The Worst Loss in Football History? Fans, Announcers, Players Left Stunned After Agonizing Blunder Leads to Unbelievable Ending (westernjournal.com)

Current Big XII standings after yesterday. The newbies still aren't doing too well. If you had WVU at 4-1 at this point, go play the lottery.

Pretty ugly quote from the Forde Yard Dash column this morning.

    https://www.si.com/college/2023/10/0...orida-nebraska

"Three-fourths of the Big 12 newcomers (16). Any hopes that the arrivals of BYU, Central Florida, Cincinnati and Houston would immediately upgrade the conference’s overall quality are not bearing out. They’re a combined 1–7 in league play, with the lone win coming via newcomer-on-newcomer crime: BYU beat Cincy on Saturday.

UCF’a most notable Big 12 moments came in blowing a 28-point second-half lead at home to Baylor—then keeping hoping alive in the final minute with a completely ridiculous fourth-down conversion by quarterback Timmy McClain.Houston had a chance to beat Texas Tech on Saturday, but its special teams gave up a 100-yard kickoff return and a blocked punt for a touchdown. The Cougars (4–1) should have the best shot at making an impact on the league race.

Add UCF to that list. Playing them at home after they get a few more Big 12 beatdowns or unexpected losses will mess with their team chemistry and I'm not sold on Gus being able to help the team navigate it.

We have the big idle week before Homecoming so here's the Week 5 scoreboard highlighted by the last Big XII version of the Red River Rivalry. Chances are good that the winner of that game will win the conference and have a shot at the CFP.

I was lookiing at the standings and we're close to bringing up the rear. The 4 new teams aren't doing well in conference play or overall except for BYU at 1-1, 4-1. The BYU win was over UC so I'm not sure what that tells us about the newbies.

Oklahoma State is going set some sort of record for lowest point total in the season at this rate. They've only scored 85 points over 4 games so far which is completely the oppopsite of normal for them. Mike Gundy may have jumped the shark this season.

On Yormark and Expansion for the conference. I could have put this in the expansion thread but seemed better suited for a BIg XII thread. ($)

Bad day at the office for the newbies, save Houston. UCF without Plumlee, apparently forgot how to defend the run and gave up 281 yards rushing to K-State. Giddens had 207 of them and threw in 86 yards receiving for good measure.

Speaking of Cougars, Holgorsen is on coaching carousel watch at Houston. Tillman Fertitta was in his camp and got him hired there so let's see if he decides to keep Holgo around too long. They fired the last guy for going 7-4 because Holgo was available.

The fan base is done with him after the loss at Rice in 2OT. That's a very similar scenario to UC vs. Miami where Rice should never win that game for the most part. Weirdly enough Rice's QB is same guy that beat UC in the Peach Bowl with Georgia.
