I'm pretty sure at least the Athletic Dept is aware of the mess by now since it made the rounds a week or so ago. Worst case scenario is CLC doesn't budge and we get a DAAP graphic design student to make them a new logo?Brent Wyrick

The school has actually done that as of yesterday and posted to social media and made a big deal about it even though they were in the wrong from the get go. They are keeping the red and black color scheme and now it's weird.Originally posted by bearcatbret View PostA zavier support who owns his own marketing business, has proposed for him to do all the rebranding for free if that school changes it's name to musketeers.
Good thing they taught UC a lesson though.
I'm pretty sure if the school district administration had any clue about why you can't just rip off someone's else's trademark, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.

If we can get 40,000 alums/fans to commit to donating $20/month to Cincy Reigns that would total 9.6 million per year for players, on top of what we get from big donors and the NIL arrangements with companies/sponsors. There is no reason that UC cannot be a bigger player in NIL. We have a vary large alumni base, plus the resources of a decent size city that many blue blood schools don't have.
Please donate today, every bit adds up to allow coaches to be more successful in recruiting.Red and Black are more of an Attitude than merely a color combination.

The Ohio legislature has passed a measure included in the “Christmas tree bill” that allows Ohio universities to pay athletes directly. The bill also makes NIL agreements immune to public records requests. That last part probably won’t fly but Dewine will probably sign it anyway.
I’d expect the Cincy Reigns collective to get absorbed by the University Athletic Dept. as soon as this gets signed.

That provision definitely will not fly. But, it will take some legal action to nullify it, and Columbus media is too afraid of aO$U to challenge that portion. It will have to come from outside Columbus media, and by the time that gets resolved, it'll be two years in.Originally posted by Lobot View PostThe Ohio legislature has passed a measure included in the “Christmas tree bill” that allows Ohio universities to pay athletes directly. That's an odd comment by Miami U. (Oxford) coach Chuck Martin. He stated that he soent 90% of the past two weeks evaluating portal talent instead of readying his team for their bowl game.
Sorry, just more evidence football needs to have one portal window in the Spring. NIL is great for the players but timing of the portal window has to change.

It wasn't an executive order, but guidance from the US Department of Education. That may not survive the incoming administration next week.Originally posted by bearcatbret View PostIt appears that an executive order has been issued that merges Title 9 and NIL. It requires female athletes to be paid the same amount as male athletes. This is something to keep an eye on.

That will depend upon the new leadership at the Department of Education. If they concur, then the NCAA and member institutions likely will need to reset. There's nothing to stop the DOE from reversing the guidance.Originally posted by London 'Cat View Post

NIL was originally just what the name implies. Guys could get paid if their likeness was in a EA Sports game, if they did a commercial, if they signed at an autograph show, on and on. Once it was decided teams could explicitly pay athletes, I actually expected this. It will further separate the haves from the have nots.
