love huggs or hate him - you can't disregard that he had a fairly big impact on the bball program - despite his issues, and God knows that he has them, its nice to see the school acknowledge him

Bob Huggins living with 'progressive cognitive condition,' family says

Bob Huggins' family released a statement Oct. 21 through the University of Cincinnati saying the Naismith Hall of Fame basketball coach is "living with a progressive cognitive condition that has begun to affect his memory and aspects of his daily life."

The family, in the statement, said it has kept this private "for several months" but felt it was appropriate to share the news on the eve of Huggins being inducted into the University of Cincinnati James P. Kelly Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 23.

This is sad news for anyone who has had to deal with something like this. Prayers to him and his family.

This is sad news. But one that happens to all of us. It's a shame he didn't get to spend more time away from bball maintaining a reasonable health. Take care Huggs.

Yes very sad news & hopefully he's able to enjoy life with this illness. Does anyone know if he still coming to the HOF ceremony on Friday?

I don’t know if his condition would allow it, but I hope he, along with other inductees are recognized on the field during the football game. The roar would be deafening regardless, but especially now.

He is currently at Montgomery Inn with his former players. This is a players only invite per Ruben Patterson. So like, don't go over there.

Lots of social media pics and videos were posted last night (Ruben's IG a good starting point). Seems there were other former staffers in attendance as well.

Some players in attendance last night included: Kenyon Martin, Danny Fortson, Ruben Patterson, Mel Levett, Steve Logan, Donald Little, Eric Hicks, Keith Gregor, Leonard Stokes, Terry Nelson, Curtis Bostic, Steve Sanders ...looks like Coach Calhoun was there too

They usually do this the day after the induction.

Just, wow, that's a pretty good "who's who" for Hugg's era of UC basketball. So happy for Huggs, so much more good than not good from his tenure here. I'm eternally grateful for what he did as I was a student at UC from 88-93 and my fan experience could never have dreamt it would be what it was.

like all of us, Huggs has had his issues, just more publicly than most / all of us. but, he deserves one **** of a greeting / ovation tomorrow. he's given all of us, except maybe a certain car dealer, some great memories.
and, having lost my sister last year to dementia, i know what their family is and will be going through. maybe a really nice and warm reception will help ease their journey a bit.

Many alums attended practice today -- among the names I did not mention above (some of whom were probably there last night too), included Nick Van Exel, Damon Flint, B.J. Grove (!), Mike Reichenecker, Tarrice Gibson
