Classy post by Jamille. It looks like USF is returning most of their rotation from last season, but they hardly played with a true center, and the three players they have transferring so far are all back-up bigs, so there should presumably be an opportunity for significant minutes on a competitive team.

Per @ThePortalReport on Twitter/X, UC is among various schools to reach out to Central Michigan's Derrick Butler.
- From Charlotte, NC
- 6'2, 195 lbs.
- Played two years of Juco ball, then his junior year at Central Michigan (presumably one year left)
- 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds per game; shot 52/125 from three (41.6%) and 49/67 FT (73.1%); only 22 assists all season

Devan Cambridge will return to Texas Tech, where he averaged 10.5 ppg before a season-ending injury early in the season. I assume he will get a medical redshirt to play out what should be his final year. Yesterday, it was reported that he planned to enter the portal.Comment

Butler is only a shooter, and not even a high volume guy. And he only made 38% in Juco on moderate volume, so not a prolific threat from deep. Converts only 46% at the rim, doesn't get to the line, doesn't create. He has an overall negative box plus minus and wasn't the best player on a terrible team. Not to be too hard on the guy, but he just doesn't seem like a high major player. He put up 28 against Creighton, which I'm guessing is the sole reason he's getting attention. CMU gave up 109 points in that game.Per @ThePortalReport on Twitter/X, UC is among various schools to reach out to Central Michigan's Derrick Butler.

Do you see UC attracting high majors right now? If so, it has to be about the NIL. That is just my opinion.Butler is only a shooter, and not even a high volume guy. Yes, we have brought in transfers who are Big 12 level contributors already and we have been in touch with several this offseason - RaHeim Moss, DJ Davis, and Connor Hickman to name a few. I just don't think Derrick Butler is one of those guys.

Per my suggestion, BearcatBunch added box plus minus to their portal tracker spreadsheet. They've done a great job with this: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...P20/edit#gid=0
We've reached out to 5 available players with BPM of 3.5 or higher: DJ Davis, Connor Hickman, Greg Gordon, Jamarii Thomas, and Jason Edwards. Ra'Heim Moss is a step below at 2.2 but still has a solid statistical profile. The other guys I am hesitant about unless the staff sees something they really like.Comment

A lot of guards. I am not disappointed as it appears the Cats can take one and go for another position if a productive player is available.Per my suggestion, BearcatBunch added box plus minus to their portal tracker spreadsheet. More than 20 high major teams reached out on his first day in the portal. This is the problem going after quality bigs. There aren't very many, and everybody wants them.UC has contacted 7 footer Christ Essandoko of St. Joe’s https://x.com/jamieshaw5/status/1776...429-7Zsp1zj4Tg

On3's Jamie Shaw listed UC among the many schools that Shakeel has heard from.Shakeel Moore -- a 6 '1 G from Greensboro, NC -- is portaling with one year of eligibility.
One year at NC State, three at Mississippi State. Career 8.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists -- most recently 7.9 / 2.2 / 1.8 and a career best 36.3% three point shooting (not particularly high volume) this year.Comment

USC freshman Bronny James is declaring for the 2024 NBA Draft. James, 19, also is entering NCAA transfer portal to maintain flexibility. The combo guard will work out for and visit NBA teams and make a draft decision based on evaluation.
