He's doing the press conference now. Looks like he doesn't like the current system and how far from center his recruiting strategy is in the current era. Says the game is not in a healthy spot and someone needs to do his job all-in and he's not there anymore because of the model.Last edited by Lobot; 10-18-2024, 10:19 AM.Brent Wyrick

That actually makes sense. There really are no rules anymore, I don’t blame him if that’s his stand. But what happened to cause such an abrupt decision?

Define "abrupt" ... I think he's been chewing on this for a while. Back in the spring, I had heard his name as someone who wouldn't be a shock if he retired like Jay Wright did. It is possible (and the theory has been floated around) that he waited until the point at which he'd force UVA's hand to let his assistant lead the program (or at least get a good shot for one year). Counter to that, how would you coach and recruit all offseason if you knew you weren't all in?Comment

It makes sense then if he wanted his assistant to get the job. It still seems odd to quit now instead of last spring. Perhaps he didn’t go last spring to keep his players out of the portal? They have one 2025 recruit committed, a 4 star guard, do they lose that guy?Comment

Bennett said, during his presser, that during a late summer break from the hectic schedule of a modern-day coach, he sat down with his wife during vacation and they jointly determined that it just wasn't going to work.Comment
