Kriisa posted a 3.3 BPM in limited playing time this year. Last year at West Virginia his BPM was exactly 0. Throughout his career Kriisa has been a good three point shooter (36%) and facilitator (26% assist rate), but also a turnover machine (23% TO rate) and poor defender (negative 0.3 defensive BPM). He doesn't get to the rim or the free throw line - in 2024 he only had 12 rim attempts and 40 FT attempts all season.

Not sure how to feel about this pickup. If he can make threes and inject some creativity into the offense it could work out. But if you guys think our current guards turn it over too much and play poor defense, Kriisa has been way worse in those areas.

          • So a shorter Lukosius? Hope he came cheap, Maybe a sign Hickman isn't getting a waiver. Profile seems similar to Hickman, but at least Kriisa has played in high level conferences throughout his career.

                • What the sam heck are we doing? Are we just taking any warm bodies we can get to commit?

It appears that way! Over the last (10) days UC has missed out on a few i thought could make an impact... Now it's second tier players...

                    • No clear method to the madness, as it seem besides playing the same position, the two are exact opposites. Sencire plays great defense, but can't shoot and is basically a non-factor on offense. Kriisa doesn't do anything well besides shoot. The guard position is looking quite full (especially if Hickman gets a waiver) unless Day Day or Jizzle transfer. Both Kriisa and Harris seem like role players. Hopefully the star(s) are coming in the form of big men or wings.

                      • I like the Harris add, was 32% from 3 as a freshman, not terrible, but not 11%...probably just shouldnt shoot more than 1 a game, only a 2nd if the first goes in so his 2pt percentage ain't bad at all, 50%..and he defends...I'm not doing sedz level work, but I'll take him

                        • FWIW Jizzle posted on his instagram about the Senciere Harris commitment, maybe that means he coming back.

                          • I think this shows our budget limitations. I doubt either of these guys were commanding a premium on the market. They're both role players.

Kriisa is a good creator. He posted 25+ assist rates in each of the last four seasons. If you can't run a real offense, might as well load up on creators. Kriisa also lowered his TO rate to 17% this past season, and just 6% in three top 100 games. Small sample, but maybe he turned a corner there?

The upside with Harris is not only is he a defensive specialist - he's one of the best in the entire country. His 5.4 defensive BPM was 11th in the nation, right between Joshua Jefferson and Emanuel Sharp. We should be able to deploy him against the elite offensive guards in our conference. Look what he did to Jizzle in our first matchup - held scoreless on 0 for 8 shooting with 3 turnovers. And he's not a horrible slasher, 62% at the rim on a just under 3 attempts per game.

                            • I agree with sedz that these players are role players. But they can be solid role players for UC. I also like their size as guards at 6’3” and 6’4”. James and Thomas are fairly short guards and these guys can bring a different look to the lineup.

There are a lot of big guards in the Big 12, so a defensive 6'4" guard can be useful.
