The goal of the "big guys" is to have 64 top tier teams. UC, with 35K seat Nippert, which is rarely 100% filled, is most likely not going to be one of them.

No matter what though, I will be there to root for UC!

Our next discussion, probably in 3 days or so, will be who our new HC is going to be. Stability is something UC FB just can't ever find.

Not happening until someone else poaches the ACC or Big 12.

We may be stuck where we are for quite some time. Worst thing is we will lose our football coaching staff, and it will be incredibly difficult to recruit kids to play "new Big East" football.

Donations will go way down, attendance even further down. Not being debbie downer here, just back to the way it was in CUSA, which is where we are again, essentially.

We need to move quickly, you're right.

I don't think that is going to happen. Most people were reporting that UC was fourth on ACC list behind UL, UCONN and Navy. If we are third on ACC list now, how far down must we be on other conferences. Only way UC gets into the ACC is if 4 of their teams get raided by SEC and B12 and UL lobbies for UC as a geographic rival. Problem is it is going to be super hard to recruit for any sports programs now. If you are from the area, why would you want to go to the Big East when the SEC, ACC and B1G are just a couple hours away? If you are an up and coming coach, why would you come here? The Big East is not really going to be a step up from MAC and CUSA anymore. How many people who are not already a fan are going to get excited about this team playing Tulane, Temple, Memphis etc. in football?

I fear it is going to be near impossible to build on the success of the past years and every year that passes will make us less and less attractive to any other conference.

I think we can add Coach to that as well. Not that he would be guaranteed to stick around if UC had been invited to the ACC, but staying in the crappy Big Leftovers conference is guaranteeing it...

This is depressing. Not only does UL leave UC high and dry, as someone earlier said, this probably is the move that forces Boise/SDSU/etc to stay in the west, further degrading what's left of the Big East (which at this point, is not even a reconstituted C-USA - it's worse than that).
The music is slowing down and the number of open chairs is dwindling... unfortunately, UC is not sitting in a chair yet.

1. Big12 decides they need 2 more and with Louisville out of the way they take UC and BYU.

2. Big12 takes FSU and Clemson or Big10 takes UNCLE and NCState and ACC comes calling.

Why is 64 a magic number? That's just a conspiracy theory that makes no practical sense.

Why not 72? Or 48? If it is 64, why wouldn't they pick the best 64? Wouldn't 2 from the 8th biggest state and 4th biggest football market make more sense than 2 from Washington, Iowa, Oregon, Kansas, or Mississippi?

In reality, everyone is trying to look out for their own best interest. It's a giant game theory puzzle with dozens of players.

This is not true. According to ESPN:

"The ACC also considered UConn and Cincinnati for membership. However, sources told ESPN the league only wanted Louisville because there is a sense among league presidents that the ACC can add more schools at a later date if the ACC lost any other schools."


No mention of Navy anywhere in that article. I think it was just a name that some of the ACC folks threw out there as a lame attempt at a parting shot to Maryland.

My hope is our turn comes next year. The scenario I see/hope to see is either

#2 scenario w/ B12 may happen sooner rather than later. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Bama are against those two joining the SEC.

SEC isn't done yet either, NCSU and VT are in play there. NC, GT and UVA for B10. Where this merry-go-round ends is anybody's guess.

While definitely better than the BE, joining the ACC after losing the aforementioned schools would seem like just Big East 2.0 wouldn't it? Losing a UNC/Duke/FSU/VT/Clemson. Aren't those the marquee programs of the ACC?
