  • Interesting. Chuck Carlton chat transcript from today:

"Again, anything is possible. For the moment, the most likely outcome would be two sometime by the end of September as a nice middle ground to give the Big 12 two six-team divisions. There seems to be a gap between Cincinnati and Houston and the rest of the candidates. Bring those two on board and then continue to survey the landscape."

This is just more fun. Ranking the candidates by food. I agree with him on the Skyline but I just do not understand how Skyline is the best that Cincinnati can provide. I would not send them Montgomery Inn ribs either just because of the same argument against Memphis, why send Texas ribs? I guess we could always send them a "midnight" pack of White Castles.

A lot of this is standard stuff. I know Memphis is famous for BBQ, but to be honest I've eaten in Memphis a few times and their best is no better than Montgomery Inn or Eli's. I'd go with Graeter's ice cream, burgers from Zips, Rueben from Izzy's, and yes a five way and coneys from Camp Washington Chili. If Walnut Street Popcorn was still in operation I'd send them cans of yellow cheddar. I really miss Walnut Street popcorn.

Whitey Casteel's is not strictly a Cincinnati thing (founded in Wichita, KS) like Skyline, Graeters, Glier's Goetta, Camp Washington Chili, LaRosa's, etc. but I wouldn't pass one up at three in the morning.

              • Now that you mention it, stop by Humbert Meats and get some goetta and city chicken. However, I do not think that will impress anyone. I love Izzy's as well. I heard on the radio though that Cincinnati is making a come back as beer capital of the world. Did we not have this conversation several years ago when Oklahoma State came into town and we talked about tailgating with the visiting team down at PBS?

                • http://www.sbnation.com/college-foot...on-urban-meyer - Cincinnati in pretty good shape. Definitely in the top two. Like anything that anyone writes is going to make a difference, this does make me feel a bit better.

                  • Slow news day, but this is an interesting read on the formation of the Big 12 as the Southwest Conference dissolved and the top teams merged into the Big 8. Like them or not, I have new respect for Texas to sticking to their stance on use of Prop 48 players as a commitment to student athletes. They did a few things to sour chances of forming a relationship with Nebraska (chiefly). Imagine if they had formed a 16 team conference in 1994 instead of 12...

Still a good read on the politics in Texas and how tv played a tremendous role. Ironically, it was ESPN that played a major role and Fox the other role.

Care to elaborate on the twitter handle?

I heard all schools signed letter of confidentiality and agreement to GOR if selected. The Big 12 won't tell a school they're in while still accepting applicants for interview. Interview pool up to 20 now with Rice and UNLV.

I do not necessarily agree with you. I believe that the Big 12 has already decided if they expand which two schools they will add. They have dug themselves into this soap opera that they are going to continue to take the press coverage. I have an idea though, Texas can take Rice, Houston, SMU, Northern TX and any other Texas school and create the big hat conference all inclusive to Texas. Then the remaining Big 12 schools add the 3 teams that they want. Yes, the big hat conference would ultimately fail and Texas would reluctantly give up it's power and join the SEC with all the other members of the big hat conference drifting. Then shortly after, the Big 12 minus Texas would fail and Oklahoma would go somewhere and the remaining schools would raid the remaining American colleges to try to remain relevant only to be the top conference outside of the power 4.

E Michael Kamp @epfourteen. Like everything else I'm taking it with a grain of salt but so far he's been correct about other things like the gag order.
