  • i'm in the camp of 'i'll believe it when i see it' - but tying two above posts together, chuck carlton from DMN also said he planned on going to BYU but was denied interviews. i don't know if anyone wants to read anything into when you overlap it with greg swaim claiming byu and cincy are the choices.

    probably coincidence given EVERY rumor or source that's claimed to identify the schools joining hasn't happened...but you only have to be right once

    • Houston's mega donor Tilman Fertitta just put down a chunk of change to remodel Hofheinz Pavilion for 2018-2019. Interesting timing and an obvious push for Big 12 inclusion. In case you're wondering where his money comes from, he's the sole owner of Landry's restaurants.

      • I guess that Houston's frantic behavior means that their invite is no sure thing, whereas our (and UConn's) relative quiet bodes well.

        No sense campaigning if you know you're in.

        • Would the news about the UC Law College staying on campus be some how related?

          BTW, UC is gaining the most interest.... http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/coll...ting-attention

          • The interviews are over and UC "checks the most boxes...".

            The interested schools sign non-disclosure agreements which likely means if they pair down the candidates to 5 for a second interview, we most likely won't know there even is a second round, much less who is or isn't being included.

            Throw in horse trading and that it's the Big 12 and none of these articles can accurately predict what will happen or when. Even the "inside sources" can only leak the position their school is advocating and their feel or intuition on how well their advocacy is being received.

            The fact that UC continues to be prominently mentioned and we aren't doing crazy public campaigning, are good indicators. Every school in the candidate pool has issues, but if you compare us to draft prospects, we are solid, not spectacular. UC is more like drafting a mixture of Stephen Curry and an offensive right tackle....we will make occasional big successful splashes and consistently protect the QB. BYU, Houston, UConn and 1-2 others are neck and neck with UC.

            At this point, the best rumor I hope to hear is that the Big 12 has decided (maybe not announced, but decidedly pursuing) a four team expansion. Until there is an official invitation, that is best we can get right now.

              @GSwaim 3h

              Everything from TV, #Big12 members, and #BYU and #UCBearcats, pointing towards it's decided except divisions and Olympic sport schedules.

                    @GSwaim 16m16 minutes ago #BYU (7) and #UCBearcats (6) very close to required eight vote super majority. No other team has more than two.

                      No other team having two? Does that mean the UTexas voting bloc is smaller than we thought? Or does it mean GSwaim doesn't have the full story?

                      If anyone tweets/twitters, could you ask him if he knows who are the seven for BYU and who are the six for UC? I only see public Twitter feeds by opening the pages on my browser.

                          Obviously those are the 2 PUBLIC Texas universities - interesting, IF this is true, UT doesn't seem to be able to get either TCU or Baylor to support Houston, Again IF, this is true, that's a lot of wood to chop to get Houston to 8.

                            Houston's not getting to eight ever. No one outside of Texas is going to touch them for this round of expansion. The other school's aren't stupid. They know exactly what Texas is trying to do here.

                              They make perfect sense. Look at Louisville and their investment prior to getting a seat at the table. Look at what UC is trying to do with Nippert and 5/3rd. The only problem is that with smaller schools in smaller conferences, they will never see the payback in their investment with the inequality of TV revenue. Fresno also did not make themselves into a national joke by lobbying for a seat that they would not get.
