Duh? I think this plays more into the human factor of strength of schedule. Playing one of your two toughest if not the toughest opponent in final game is more important to human eyes because they are looking for "the look" heading into Playoff. Playing those same tough games early or mid-season are easily forgotten and forgiven if losses.

It really took a research firm getting paid high consultant dollars to show this? Either, I'm in the wrong business or Bowlsby is in the wrong role.

        • Nielsen report for 2015 sports is out. Reddit CFB tweeted this out. This is a PDF file of sports TV ratings in general. On Page 28, The percentage of college football fans by county is shown. Appears that The only Big 12 market that has a better percentage of fans to population than the Cincinnati region is the state of Oklahoma and possibly Austin TX.

It's truly amazing how much time and energy some people waste writing on the subject of conference expansion/realignment. This author (who admits he is a huge B1G fan) is quoting some source that the B1G will go to 20 teams this summer by adding UVA, UNC, G-tech, FSU, Duke, and Notre Dame. He says the ACC's grant of media rights (GOR) is not as iron clad as some think and that the end is near for the ACC. Wouldn't that leave the SEC and Big12 kind of holding the bag?...........and also improve our chances of getting into either the SEC or Big 12? It's all pure speculation at this point.

              • I may be wrong, but I read into these quotes something different than the article author. I read Gee's comments as the Big 12 conference is no longer on the verge of disbanding and there are not any implications of whether that stability is related to expansion topics.

What do you read into this? From http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...le.html?pg=all

                Big 12 Conference expansion dead?

If University of West Virginia president Gordon Gee is to be believed, the Big 12 Conference won't be expanding anytime soon.
While appearing at an intercollegiate athletics panel over the weekend, Gee, a Utah native and a proponent of expansion, called the conference "stable"
"I think everyone is now working very hard to keep us together," he told Greg Madia of WVSports.com. "I would have said maybe two years ago there was a real possibility of a disruption, but I feel that it’s much less now.”

                • What I'm getting out of Madia's article is that they don't think the media numbers crunch yielded a result that's substantial enough to expand. Unfortunately that part of the story is not a quote so who knows. Also, the conference (Bowlsby) has been less than forthcoming with actual information and has been smoke-screening though the entire process.

                  • This could be big news for the Big 12. The Big10 signed a ridiculously large contract with FOX for 50% of their FB and BB games today. This means FOX is either going to pay big for the premium Big 12 games in renegotations or they will let the Big 12 go to ESPN. Either of which should be an improvement for the Big 12 over their current half and half + LHN deal.

Or worst case scenario is no one bids on it and it twists in the wind because they don't have a network. Don't see that happening though.

ACC's ESPN deal is up for renewal shortly as well.

I thought the b12 deal is not close to renewal, hence the longhorn network weight which is tied to the conference for quite a few years?

                        • I think it's through 2024-2025. The deal is supposed to expand proportionately if they add teams. This is only for the TV contract. The rest of the payouts like bowl money and NCAA payouts don't expand and get divided among the new number of teams. A CCG benefits all schools according to the numbers crunched by the Big 12's data consultants. Even Bowlsby was forced to admit that one. It might be smart of the conference to pay a buyout and renegotiate it based on the money the Big 10 just got but that's theory on my part.

                          • If there is a buyout in that thing on behalf of the conference that isn't prohibitively large i would be shocked. Those media deals are to competitive to put something like that in there.

                            • I think I used the wrong word. I think penalty clause is the phrase I was looking for, not buyout. I'm a not a contract lawyer by any stretch but most services contracts I've been a part of have escalating penalty clauses leading to breach settlements.
