  • We are looking at a conference with big 12 castoffs and AAC members, I think.

    • You might be right because the Big 12 won't do anything unless they are forced to. They do not want to expand. If the conference implodes then maybe we can form a heck of a conference by talking the best of the AAC and the best of the Big 12 castoffs. I think eventually we will have to feed basketball and let go of the big football budget. I don't think we should give up yet because a power 5 slice of football is big money but eventually we will have to probably give up. This new conference should try to focus on being a great bball conference like the new big east despite not being in a power 5 conference.

He is either delusional or just not very smart if he actually thinks the P5 would be best to "collectively bargain" tv contracts in the future. The b10 and sec do not need the b12 to earn money chip. The problem is the b12 doesn't draw the big tv numbers. They would be dead weight in that equation.

        • Chuck Carlton at the DMN is reporting that there are definitely 6 schools favoring expansion and possibly as many as 8, which would tip the vote. In order for that to happen Texas Tech or TCU would have to flip.

Yep agree with you. Can't see why the SEC and B1G (which are awash in $$$) would want any part of a Texas based conference that has relatively weak national tv ratings and a big anchor called the Longhorn Network. It has been reported before that Texas would prefer to wait until the big 12 GOR expires and then add FSU, Miami or Clemson............Question: why would FSU, Miami and Clemson want to link up with a conference that's saddled with the Longhorn Network and the overbearing, dominating presence of UT ? I think the end game (after the current GOR expires) is more likely to see the Big 12 disintegrate and the ACC survive with maybe FSU and Clemson staying put in the ACC or winding up in the SEC.
Btw......Chip Brown has been wrong before. I wouldn't necessarily believe what he puts out there. I still believe there's a sliver of hope that the Big 12 eventually expands if they can get Texas on board.

My understanding is that now they want a 100% consensus before they expand.

If, heaven forbid, we are actually relegated to no more than the AAC and some Big 12 cast offs I suggest we make sure that does NOT include any school with "Texas" in its name! If Tech and TCU are that stupid to vote against expansion, basically because UT tells them so, then we should make sure they have no soft landing place, at least not with us! If they are going to be Texas' lap dogs, let Texas take care of them!

                  • It will take a third party as this point with a dump truck full of cash to push this group. Texas obviously has the trump card, and short of someone riding in on the white horse i would be $uprised. These guys are way to bottom line oriented and have no vision other than Boren.

That's new and not in their bylaws either. A major change only takes a super majority.

                      • Related note: The biggest game in the Big 12 , the Red River Shootout, was relegated to FS1 today. ABC could only pick one of the first three big conference games according to Kirk Bohls and chose Texas vs. ND. FOX then took the Red River game and Baylor vs. TCU.

I think Boren stated the desire for unanimity because expansion only makes sense if LHN is folded into conference network. You could force expansion without Texas, but it doesn't pay if LHN stays hence need for Texas'stampede of approval.

                          • Greg Flugaur ‏@flugempire 60m60 minutes ago Everybody needs to chill. Today is bluster to claim positions Data in next 2 days will give some people at the table a pair of Aces.

I hope he is right, it seems like now is the time for the parties to stake out their positions. It may all come down to what can be done about the Longhorn network that would make Texas whole, something along the lines of making sure they get the same amount or somewhat more than they are now making from a financial standpoint, and probably giving their other sports priority on the network for some period of time. It could end up being the Big 12 network with a significant lean toward Texas, which most of the other league members would probably be OK with. I still believe it will take only 8 members for approval of expansion, but the work will be behind the scenes and reported to the public as a unanimous decision. Flugaur has said all along that UC and UCONN are the preferred picks. I'm not sure he is the most reliable source, but he has been the most consistent.

They (OU and Texas) are an old married couple who wish they could stay married, but have no reason to do so anymore.

Our choice will be between a hobbled Big 12 and the AAC.
My statement remains... Texas balks at reform, OU throws their hands in the air and says "We tried" and goes to the SEEEEEEEECCCCCCCCCC.

Texas says "ahhh what can ya do?" and goes to the Big Ten.

                              • If the long anticipated 16 team super conferences are ever to become a reality, would all the current P5 members be safe? If I'm the TV networks do I really want to keep Northwestern, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, or many other of the less competitive programs in the group or will it be a time for a real makeover? The University of Chicago was once in the Big 10.
