Note that this is a pay site. I want to inform our viewing audience that if the publication, in this case, the NY Times, is located in a public library, you can read it on-line for free through your library. I learned that trick by reading the Business Carier through the Cincy-Hamilton County Library.

A little bit of more insight on the Tennesee NIL pass through ticket charge. ($)

Adrian Wojnarowski retires from ESPN, joins St. Bonaventure
        https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/41313868/adrian-wojnarowski-retires-espn-joins-st-bonaventure

ESPN senior NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has agreed to become the general manager of the men's basketball program at St. Bonaventure, he told ESPN.
        ...
The GM role has become more common in college basketball in recent years, as the transfer portal has made wholesale roster turnover an inherent part of the sport. The role includes Name Image and Likeness allocation, recruiting and supporting successful Bonnies coach Mark Schmidt.

Without completely going off here, I'll just say college sports is now a business in reality and businesses are going to pass expenses onto the consumer at every opportunity to maintain profit margin. (and solvency)

NIL isn't so much a fiasco as some players have to realize they don't have the marketing power as players with more experience, accomplishments, or in higher profile positions. A reserve offensive lineman making a six figure NIL is what is wrong with the process. It reeks of pay-4-play which isn't allowed nor should it be. Some players have more value or draw selling merchandise, signing sessions, or promoting a product. A ten percent increase in tickets with proceeds to go directly to players should be cause for an NCAA investigation. You don't raise money for NIL, they is either a market or there isn't.

QB Matthew Sluka to exit UNLV, says 'representations' not upheld

                https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ere-not-upheld

Matthew Sluka, the starting quarterback for undefeated UNLV, announced Tuesday night on social media he will not play in any more games this season.

Sluka said he will instead use his redshirt year.

"I committed to UNLV based on certain representations that were made to me, which were not upheld after I enrolled," Sluka posted on X. "Despite discussions, it became clear that these commitments would not be fulfilled in the future. I wish my teammates the best of luck this season and hope for the continued success of the program."

How long before we see contract holdouts in college? That's basically what this is in addition to breach of contract by UNLV, allegedly.

Isn't that essentially what recruiting and the transfer portal is doing? However, where I see this becoming a huge issue is a backup gets thrust into extended play due to injury to a starter, and he performs so well in 2-3 games that he further hurts the team by sitting out to keep his redhirt.

My two cents, basketball and football have it backwards. You should be able to maintain basketball redshirt if you play 4 games instead of lose it for one minute in one game. Conversely, 4 games is too many for football. I'd say if you appear in more than 4 or 10 minutes with limit of two games, i.e. 2 or 5 minutes per game, then maintain redshirt.

More is coming on out on this and it sounds like his agent made a huge mistake in that the $100,000 he was promised from an assistant coach for his client transferring to UNLV was never in writing.

Hold onto your hats. The starting UNLV RB just entered the portal for the same reason.

Allen's reason is not NIL-related. It's playing time. He's the #4 RB after transferring from NC State. He apparently expected to be the top dog at RB.

This just got announced. I haven't parsed through it yet .

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati Athletic Department announced its partnership with Teamworks General Manager (GM) on Tuesday.

Tommy Tuberville is still such a clown. Pushing for a national NIL law, doesn’t like players breaking contracts … also he uses Indiana — who is thriving this year with many mid-major transfers — as an example of what’s wrong with college football today. https://x.com/danwetzel/status/18589...A2NHZ_hNyS2mFg
