  • BYU has more of an issue in all other sports but football. Football rarely plays on Sundays. That's one reason why the rest of their sports are in the WCC currently. I see BYU as a football only member which probably puts them 3rd on the list if they go to 14 and out if they only go to 12. I see UConn or UH in 2nd and the loser of that vs. Memphis for 4th. if they truly want academic standing as well in a member, UConn is the best choice of the bunch.

    • Texas wants to be able to say they did their damnedest to add Houston but were outvoted by the rest of the conference. If Texas is openly campaigning for Houston, it means that Houston isn't getting a spot.

Greg Abbott wants to be able to go into Houston and say "Folks, I did everything I could to get you in"

      • I don't know fellows... I was positive it was going to be UC as one of the top 2, but this week I've just started getting nervous about UH and that it is going to be BYU #11 and then a decision between UC & UH for #12 and because of all the TX schools UH is going to get the nod.. Seriously going to flip my wig if that happens.

        • If the adds are 2 out west, it's kind of irrelevant as the conference will not stay together very long. Thus, it never was.

Agree, two western teams don't make sense except for money grab. I still think there will be 4 teams selected including BYU football only. The AAC is going to be ugly when this round is over.

            • I don't know why the Big 12 wouldn't add 4 teams since they get 400 million more for doing so. I have heard they are afraid they may tick off Fox and ESPN and it will hurt them during the next round of negotiations but I wouldn't worry about it because they will pay if the product is doing well. Besides, who knows what the broadcasting sports world will look like in 8 years? ESPN will probably have went under by then.

              • In 8 years ESPN, and virtually everyone else, will be on online only. The conventional cable TV model is all but dead already. I would guess as soon as ESPN decides to go with an online subscription option that doesn't require a cable contract, a cord cutter exodus from Cable and Fiber Optic TV will occur. I know sports are the only reason I still have TV option on my FiOS contract at this point.

How much will people pay to access an individual channel? The money today is high because the networks package the channels resulting people paying who don't watch. If only the people watching pay, the cost per person will be higher. I don't think PPV is going to be the next cash cow.

I agree sports is the only reason I have DirectTV and I'm willing to pay for my team on a per game basis. As it is I mute the tv for commercials and slip through them for recordings.

Yea agree. We'll probably know a lot about the future of the Big12 based on the number of schools and which schools get added. If it's Houston, BYU, Colorado State, and Memphis (or even just 2 of those schools) you'll know this was just a lucrative money grab with the conference essentially dying in 2024 when the GOR expires.
                          My guess is:
                          Houston #11
                          BYU. #12
                          Memphis #13
                          UC or UConn #14

Boy 'O boy, I sure hope they get this decided before the first game. It would help season ticket sales for this season and take a big weight off. On the other hand, we will be playing several teams that either get in or don't. BYU and all of the AAC teams of significant Big 12 interest. We don't play any of the WAC teams, nor do we play Tulane, but there could be serious chips on the shoulders of our team (if we don't get invited) or some of the our opponents (if we get in). I wonder what the response will be in Tulsa for that road game?
