      • I am a pessimist by nature, Meyer has hardly acknowledged UC since he graduated. He did not play much and has held that grudge throughout. I wonder what the big turnaround is about. Maybe his sister said that he was not welcome home for Christmas if he did not say something this time around since he slighted UC during the ACC go around. Nothing against Urban but something does not pass the smell test. Or maybe he just felt more threatened by the ACC than the Big 12. That being said, it can not hurt. UC will never be tosu year in and year out but we can provide them competition if we obtain some depth which we are sorely lacking. I still suspect that kids in Ohio that are not drafted by tosu, oops, I mean recruited by tosu will still want to go to Big 10 schools to compete against tosu just to "show them". Again, thanks Urban. Maybe it was his wife this time who still has strong ties to friends from UC.

However, i take Uc's silence as a good sign. The B12 is not going to gain a lot of credibility whatever they do at this point as they failed on numerous occasions in the past several years to act expeditiously and take the 3rd party guessing out of the equation. We'll see. I remain optimistic.
He's not wrong on that. I expected the announcement to come during Media Days as well only to find that they hadn't even seen the data yet. This has gone on longer than necessary.

While anything is possible, especially with the Big 12, hard to believe they would make expansion announcements either right before, or during, the Olympics.- the world, except for the schools involved, not paying any attention!

I haven't looked back at the timeline, but i believe in the Spring they decided to hire the outside firm(s) to evaluate the impact of expanding, and were planning on deciding whether to do it or not during their summer meetings. After that process, they had pretty much concluded not to, and then did a 360 once the Accn was announced. I think the expectation for the Summer meeting was they were not going to expand at all from everything that came out. I think the expectations of a summer announcement go way back and are based a lot more in candidate's minds than anything the b12 has come out with. The b12 has thrown cold water on this since go.

                • As Lobot mentioned, an announcement would dominate the news on Thursday September 1. http://www.espn.com/college-football/schedule - A shame that there are still UC tickets available and even worse, starting at $10. There are a lot of games that night and ESPN can spin the topic during their broadcasts.

This article nicely summarizes there are three deserving teams and a crapshoot to find a fourth deserving team if they expand by four. It simply states that if the Big 12 expands by two, it is highly likely to be two of the three listed meaning one of them could be left out. It doesn't place an order on the three teams or provide evidence that UC has a good chance of being left out. IT does say a deserving team will be left out if they only expand by two.

It is a very fair article that doesn't mention any of the Honor Code or LGBTQ issues.IT only mentions that BYU has "religious implications", but they have two other religious schools in Baylor and TCU.

                        • Red_n_Black: That was a very clear summary of the article. I agree with you on that. The things that I am counting on for being one of the two are: location to West Virginia and Oklahoma's support. I can not see West Virginia voting for BYU before UC.

                          • The Urban Meyer announcement makes me really skeptical. All he's done is talk about winning Cincinnati recruits - so why is he all of the sudden going to advocate something that will make recruiting Cincinnati - and Ohio - even harder?

I'm concerned that he waited until he heard UC was out, then "supported" us in order to look like he was on his (and his sister's) side.

He's trying to keep the local guys away from MSU and ND more so than UC I would think. I'm not sure we make recruiting Cincinnati harder for him at all considering the extreme national scope of OSU recruiting. He can say that he's focusing on recruiting Cincinnati to look good to supporters in Ohio but that doesn't mean he's actually doing it. I think he's interested in most Cincinnati recruits as a keep away from competing programs. UC will not be directly competing with him on the field very often if at all.

UGH!! I was really hoping it would be four team expansion and no brainer for UC. Though I believe UC is in even if only a two team expansion.

With two teams, it's almost a dead heat between the three teams, with UC having less negatives than the other two.

Some schools will be against BYU for the Sunday play and the Honor code, plus fear of creating another island like WVU. If they expanded by four teams, I'd place CSU or Boise as the two fighting for the fourth spot.

Some schools will be against UH due to creating a large Texas voting block, more travel for WVU, ISU and Kansas and in general voting against Texas due to LHN.

I think few schools will be against UC on any counts or principals, except Texas wants BYU and UH. Texas will have to give on one in order to get the other.

My prediction, keyword prediction, they expand by two and it will be Houston and Cincinnati. This is more than being a homer, UC makes logical sense per the arguments listed above.
